After it was first announced in 2014, Blizzard's first new IP in years and first cross-platform launch is finally here with Overwatch. In what many see as the veteran studio's take on the whole competitive team-based online shooter thing. And with a cast of 21 distinct heroes, Overwatch once again proves the studio's flawless attention to detail, fun, and accessibility. Is this the best shooter in years? Quite possibly.

The comparisons to Team Fortress are fair. Because hey, capturing points and pushing payloads in a specific role is what you do when you play Team Fortress. And in all fairness that’s pretty much all there is to Overwatch. If you were so inclined to sum it up that way. But the setting, the characters, the world, the maps, the art direction, the music, the borderline genius sound design and audio cues, the animation, the sense of cohesion with a cast of characters that currently sits at 21 distinct heroes, are all polished to such a degree that it’s hard to fault even a single thing without feeling like you’re simply nit-picking.

And much like with other online experiences, once you’ve had a few intense and close rounds where you feel like you’ve contributed towards victory, you’ll be hooked.

I guess you learned your lesson from the uncharted review

No mention of the ridiculous Australian pricing? That alone should dock points off the review, and should definitely be mentioned at the slightest. $69 for the standard edition while US gets it for $39 is just terrible. Thank god I was able to grab it for $55 from Taiwan Bnet.

the game is already getting smashed by hackers thought it would take them a bit longer to f*** it up for everyone who wants to play the game. Here's hoping that Blizzard get right onto this s*** and life ban the worthless f*****s.

They already banned a heap of people at the end of last week, they even posted up a wall of shame for a little while of all the account names that had been banned but later took it back down.

Sounds like they might be banning by hwid too, cos theres reports of people buying fresh copies on entirely new bnet accounts and getting rebanned.

I have a little bit of a love/hate thing going with Overwatch, I mean I think it's brilliant, love the game and the characters and when you get a good game its genuinely a s***load of fun. Even losing can be fun when it's a close, hard fought game. But then when I end up in a crappy game getting stomped and my team is clueless, f*** I get salty. It brings out some serious internet nerd rage in me!

they already have. banned hackers have tried buying multiple copies of the game and changing PC hardware etc to try and circumvent the ban with no luck.

Well, I don't think that regional pricing should factor into the review score. Although that being said $69 for PC is a lot better than $99.95 for the digital console version. Sure it's worth a mention but doesn't detract from the game's appeal.

well i haven't noticed anything like this that you're crying about, so unless you have proofs you're just having a sook like a butthurt raging newb

the easiest way to know if you're playing against an aimbot or not is if the Pharah character is scoring over 90% of rocket hits

the aim read ahead for firing rockets for the target players vector will feel unnaturally consistent, or it may just be a very good player

Blizzard has been really good with addressing hackers and just generally s***** toxic players. This game is everything I've wanted in a multiplayer game in ages. Short, satisfying matches. Amazing cast of characters, colourful and fun as f***.

This comes up a lot.

You guys really do not like to criticise regional pricing in your official reviews and news etc. This is a regional gaming website and regional pricing is one of the most significant concerns of your readerbase, but as a team AGN has avoided the issue like the plague for years. Oh, trog or someone will pop up every now and then and make a comment agreeing that it sucks, but its never enough of a problem to make it into a review for ... reason$?

Its not like you were out of room to add it into 'things we didn't like'.

Price gouging has always been an issue with anything in Australia these days and the government needs to get tougher on this crap. Shouldn't factor into a review score though.

I wouldn't hold my breath for lan play, but Jeff Kaplan did post on the forums in the last day or so saying that one thing they want to do at some point is add a server browser for custom games, so that'd be cool and a bit of a taste of the old days.

how can you give a game 10/10 and then list the things you didn't like?

doesn't 10/10 mean the game is perfect?

No, 10/10 doesn't mean the game is perfect. No game is. But the score reflects that it's brilliant and an instant classic.
