If you've had an itch for some of that rhythmic Guitar Hero button-pressing action the past little while, but your guitars no longer work or you just plain got rid of it all, fear not -- ATONE: Heart of the Elder Tree has you covered in part by way of its rhythm-based combat setup, which is also backed up by an epic Norse-inspired tale.
Inspired by Norse mythology, this hand-drawn, story driven, rhythm combat RPG blends narrative, exploration, and music all into one journey. Meet and converse with a slew of diverse characters, explore a haunting take on Midgard and make choices that influence your story and ending.
Combat is entirely rhythm based and is inspired by titles like Guitar Hero and Dance Dance Revolution. Naturally this makes music a crucial component of ATONE, with each fight receiving its very own song composed by Australian electronic artist Luminist.
In addition to the above video which showcases how the game's combat will work, the teams behind the game also shared the track "Sons of Fenrir" which is part of the game's OST which you can also check out below. And as you can see (and hear, while Guitar Hero is definitely a big influence, there's a more measured synth tilt to the whole affair, which certainly makes the game and its presentation stand out.
ATONE: Heart of the Elder Tree comes to PC, PS4 and Nintendo Switch this January 27. Stay tuned for more as we have it closer to launch.
