Atomic Heart has been one of those games we've been following for years, it comes from Russian studio Mundfish and has impressed both in terms of visuals and first-person gameplay. It was one of the first games to showcase real-time ray-tracing back when RTX On first hit the scene. Most recently it made an appearance during Microsoft's Xbox and Bethesda E3 2021 Showcase.
With the following short and sweet trailer.
Set in an alternate history Russia the action takes place in a mysterious facility where something has gone wrong. As a KGB operative you're sent in to investigate, and from there it's a mix of stunning, weird, dark, and outright fascinating technology-driven action. Atomic Heart is easily one of our most anticipated games, and as per a new update via the game's official Discord - things look to be progressing nicely.
According to the team, the game is in the polishing phase of development. That said a release date hasn't been set due to publishing commitments (it's also coming to Xbox Game Pass) and not wanting to force the team to work towards a single date and time.
"We cannot tell you the release date right now due to a million little nuances, starting with factors beyond our control (localization of the game into other languages), and ending with the mood and atmosphere within the team, which will obviously be worse if we eventually have to move this date," writes Mundfish. "But you should know the main thing: never before were we able to say 'The game is ready, now it is at the stage of polishing and final assembly'. And now, quite recently, we said this phrase – and it is true. The long wait is almost over, we promise."
And with that, even though Atomic Heart is a linear first-person shooter along the lines of BioShock the game will feature two distinct endings that will be the direct result of an "important moral choice" players will make in the latter stages of the game.
