Nathan "nachosjustice" Lawrence has been hitting the cobblestones in Ubisoft's latest installment of the annual Assassin's Creed series to review the London-based Assassin's Creed Syndicate.

Here's a snippet from his review:
It’s a shame because the free running is the best in series in Syndicate. Sure, there are odd moments where you’ll encounter an invisible wall or gameplay execution won’t match movement intention but, for the vast majority of the time, Ubisoft Quebec nails it. Borrowing the movement up/down logic from Unity, Ubisoft Quebec evolves the system to the point that it treats parkour momentum as threefold. Up and down are the most obvious options, but there’s also respect for a horizontal plane, which equates to automated vaulting across waist-high obstacles.

The result is a semi-intuitive/semi-manual control system that requires some initial mental rewiring for returning fans, but ultimately pays off in terms of preserving forward momentum and, basically, getting your character where you want them to go in the way you want them to get there. This philosophy of tweaking the core mechanics of the series carries over into other areas, too, albeit with mixed results.

with reviews ranging from 4-9/10 it seems like they have no idea what to do with the IP. ubi really needs to let AC rest for a few of years.

Ah, so they've kept with the tradition of having a s*** boss fight at the end hey. Almost wondering by now if thats an intentional trope. Still, sounds like I'll love it, the free running in unity I thought was fantastic so if they've managed to even improve it furthur I'll be pretty happy. And the setting is one I'm looking forward to more than probably any other AC game they've done (well, except maybe for black flag, but in my mind that was barely an AC game anyway, it was a pirate game).

Oh wow, yeah, just checked metacritic, polarising indeed! From 90% reviews calling it a triumphant return to form and the best AC ever to 40% reviews calling it a massive disappointment. Gonna have to read those reviews in more depth when I have time to get some context

Best to wait until end of year, Ubisoft titles drop in price dramatically after a month or so.

I found out that you can trade in those Uplay points you earn from playing Ubisoft games, to get a 20% off voucher for their online store. So I did that and just ordered it from their store for 20% off

I'm playing Rogue at the moment on PC, and its freaking awesome. Its basically alternate version of Black Flag, which I'm happy with. Unity sits next to the PS4 unfinished - because it was boring as bats***. Maybe I'll give syndicate a shot after Fallout 4.

I just want them to do something with the main story. It seems that they're just dragging it out for the shekels. The Desmond arc was really good and I really wanted to see where it was going from there.

Plot twist, every assassin's creed game up till now has actually been someone in an animus 200 years from now replaying the memories of people in the present day who were replaying the memories of people in the past.
