For fans of the Assassin's Creed series, you're finally about to get some closure.

It's arguable this should have come with the last Assassin's Creed outing Brotherhood, but Ubisoft felt they had too many loose ends to tie up before they could jump the series ahead to another era and another assassin proper, and Revelations is meant to not only be the series closer, in its current form, but also the stepping stone into the future of the franchise.

Does it deliver this in a compelling way? We asked Patrick Stafford to run it through its paces -- as an avid fan of the previous outing -- and he came away with mixed feelings.

Nice review, shame that it hasn't carried over the mystery of the puzzles. Will have to get it for the girlfriend, she loves the AC series.

Woah, 7/10? Sounds pretty weak :/

Even though I've only just started playing Brotherhood (I gave up on Arkham City), I was considering dropping in to JB at lunch to grab this. However since Skyward Sword is out in just 10 days time, I figure I could probably wait.

I'm disappointed to hear it only got a 7, All of there previous games seemed to get better and better. I will still be buying it though.

Do you guys know the release date on steam? For some reason it just says December.

For anyone curious, costs on steam when converted to AUD:
AUS region: $78.22
USA region: $48.88
GBP region: $61.34

Hm, strange, just watched and read the IGN review, which frankly seem to line up on games opinions with me better than Ausgamers reviews - they've said 8.5, but that it's the best AC game yet and is an improvement, particularly in storytelling.
Some pretty stark contrast there.

I think there are a number of reviews up now, including Eurogamer's, that would gel with what I'm saying here.

I really hope that's the case, that they have the best developers working on an amazing game for next year, and this was just a distraction to get some cash. I have hope, but this is made me a little cautious.

Really solid review Farrelly. Totally agree with the wafer thin story leaving the ACR to stand on the merits of gameplay alone, and here lies the problem. Combat and climbing/free-running needs a revamp. The irrational jump back while scaling buildings is idiotic and serves no purpose. I enjoyed playing through it but wasn't really invested by the time I got to the end credits. Bomb making was hella cool though...

Yeah, theres a bunch of reviews up on Metacritic now that pretty much agree, its the first Assassin's Creed game to not be as good (or better) than the previous one. Don't think I'll bother getting it, maybe wait 12 months or so till it comes out cheap in a sale somewhere.

I hadn't realised that AC:Rev comes with AC and discounts for AC2 and AC:BH.

This is the first Assassin's Creed they've made without Patrice Désilets, maybe that explains the drop in quality.

This is kind of disappointing considering cod mw3 got 9.6 and not much really changed with that game, what gives?

Sounds like this game is going one step beyond "not much really changed" though, and actually is missing stuff the previous one did have.
