Ubisoft has excitedly shared the news that the hotly anticipated Assassin's Creed 3 has become the most pre-ordered game in the company's history by a wide margin, reportedly more than doubling the previous record holder, 2011's Assassin's Creed: Revelations.
“Assassin’s Creed III is one of the most anticipated games of the year, and this impressive pre-order mark is just a hint of the game’s potential,” said Geoffroy Sardin, chief EMEA sales and marketing officer at Ubisoft. “When players discover the new features, historical period, characters and gaming experience that the development team has worked so hard to create, we’re confident that they will agree that this is the biggest, best Assassin’s Creed game yet.”

Customers still have time to place their pre-orders and benefit from exciting deals, including the Special Edition, an exclusive package with bonus in-game digital content; Single Player Mission: A Dangerous Secret, with an exclusive Flintlock Musket weapon reward. Available at all leading games retailers.
In related news that Ubi would surely be less happy about, the Xbox 360 version of the game has found its way into the hands of copyright infringers, with a version of the game playable on modified consoles now out in the wild, five days before the game's official launch.

Gameplay footage and spoilers are already starting to propagate, so exercise caution for a few days if you want to go into the American Revolution nice and fresh.

Although console piracy is somewhat less accessible and prevalent than PC piracy, this particular development is a touch ironic for the publisher, as the PC version's one month delay was presumed to be due to Ubisoft's piracy projections on the desktop platform. In an October GamesCom 2012 interview with GI International, Ubi CEO Yves Guillemot had claimed the PC as having "around a 93-95 per cent piracy rate".

Assassin’s Creed III officially launches on October 31 for PS3 and Xbox 360, on November 22 for PC, and during the "launch window" for the Wii U.

Or in other words, a 5-7% conversion rate.
Ubisoft seem to spend too much time focusing on the 93-95% and not enough time focusing on the 5-7%, a.k.a. their customers.

95-97% of what? I keep hearing these statistics but I really don't understand what the percentage is, do they just go to pirate bay and look at downloads and then add units sold and work it out?

I wonder if they actually understand that there would be a rather large margin of those people that if they didn't have the option to get the game for free wouldn't actually go out and buy it. realistically then they aren't actually missing out on profit. The only loss comes from people who would of bought the game but decided not to. Really when you take that much smaller percentage and look at it in profits it's honestly probably just a skid mark on an old set of jeans compared to what they still make on the rest of the units sold.

There's really no excuse for pirating games. It's easier to legally buy and download than pirate. It's just people being cheap and impatient.

Although I do agree people download games they never would ever buy and a large amount probably still don't play the pirated game. There's a huge amount of downloading things for the sake of it.

People think they have a right to play everything. They don't. Also when it comes to the cost, online game sales produce some awesomely cheap games. Just wait for steam sales ect. The amount of relatively recent games you can get for next to nothing is very large.

In fact I probably only buy 5 games on release a year. But like 15 on sale all combined for well below the cost of one new game. Often they're relatively new titles.

Anyway, I pre-ordered AC3 on PC ages ago. Hopefully it's good!

With PC though it's people shooting themselves in the foot. They complain something like Crysis 2 is dumbed down for consoles. Partially true. It gets leaked before release and is massively downloaded. The most downloaded game of the year. Kind of justifying why developers shouldn't bother with PC. Which bugs the hell out of me because I want developers like Crytek to keep focussing on PC. Which I believe they are trying with Crysis 3. I bet the pirates will probably kill this attitude with the next game..

Derrr. Crysis is s***, why'd I pay for it.... durrr. I'll just pirate it because I want to play it... derr

The stupidity of that common attitude with pirates is what is so frustrating. Claim they pirate because the game is s***. When clearly it's not s*** if you want to play it and then do.

I'm pretty sure Crysis is s*** because it's just a fancy tech demo hammered into something that resembles a game.

So it's leaked for the 360 and PS3. Know who can't play it illegally? PC users. So take that 95% and shove it up your arse ubisoft.

I'd like to see actual stats some time on console piracy, like number of people who pirate it versus number of people who buy it, would be interesting.
