Taking place over the
Australian Open finals weekend the
AO Summer Smash for 2020 will see Australia's largest competitive gaming tournament host players from over 12 countries - playing
Fortnite. Starting with the Charity Pro-Am on Saturday February 1 and then the Solo’s Championship on Sunday February 2 - it's sure to be a fun weekend of competition.
"We are really looking forward to the second Fortnite Summer Smash here at the Australian Open,” AO Summer Smash organiser, Mark Riedy said. “In our first year the Summer Smash generated more than 11 million views on YouTube alone, and hundreds of thousands of fans tuned into live broadcasts via digital platforms. We know the potential this event has and want to ensure we continue to build year-on-year to be one of the best competitive gaming events not only in the Asia Pacific region, but the world."
The Charity Pro-Am on Saturday will see gaming personalities as well as those from sports and entertainment compete in trios to donate their take of the $100,000 prize pool to a charity. On the following day the Solo’s Championship will see 90 players go head-to-head for their share of the $400,000 in total prize-money - with local names MrFreshAsian, Muselk, Mitch Robinson, Lachlan, and x2 Twins confirmed alongside international Fortnite players, streamers, and content creators.
