The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess (HD) has been confirmed for a March 2016 release on the Wii U, with development and port duties being handled by Melbourne-based Tantalus. Which is very cool. Plus, Final Fantasy VII star Cloud Strife is headed Super Smash Bros. in a mashup that should rekindle those mid-'90s feelings of the 'my console is better than yours' variety. And with dates for the upcoming Star Fox Zero, and hints that the new Zelda game will be coming out on Wii U in 2016, today's presentation was a Nintendo-palooza's worth of cool stuff. And we didn't even mention the whole female Link stuff.
Okay, so we should probably clarify that last bit. A female Link, called Linkle, will be a playable character in Hyrule Warriors Legends for the 3DS. Which is the upcoming handheld version of the Zelda meets Dynasty Warriors beat-and-slice-em-up. This news isn't exactly earth shattering stuff, mainly because Link kind of always looked like a bit feminine. So Linkle may just be the next logical step for the character
Here's Link.
And here's Linkle.
Oh wait, that's the other way round. Anyway you get the point. Now, a female Link in a proper Legend of Zelda game would be pretty cool, and an interesting and natural shift for the series.
Speaking of the next proper Legend of Zelda adventure, The Legend of Zelda Wii U is still coming 2016. Which is surprising news for those that all but assumed development on the game had shifted to Nintendo's NX console. Which means 2016 is shaping up to be a big year for the Wii U, as Star Fox Zero has also been given a release date of April 22, 2016. In the US at least.
Here's a new trailer for the game.
In other news, naturally there was talk of new Amiibo, Pokemon, other 3DS titles, as well as a new web portal for the recently released Super Mario Maker.
I would buy a second hand wii u to play the new zelda.. Too bad all we see of it is 10 seconds worth. What's this s*** with wolf statue carrying over data to the new game?
My Twilight Princess s*** itself while sitting in my Wii for about six months. The label on the disc fell apart inside the console and I had to open it and fish around with tweezers to get the remnants out. That would be from the steam occasionally coming out of my nearby oven, but unfortunately I can't move things around too much here.
I stopped leaving discs in the drive, but I will have to find a better place for the Wii.
Rather than buy the game on Wii again, I'm really looking forward to the re-release on Wii U. It's a classic Zelda title.
Why is this such a terrible thing? It's not like they aren't making a new Zelda game.
They've been making a new Zelda game since before the WiiU came out, and have in the meantime churned out a HD remake of Wind Waker and confirmed that another Zelda remake has a release date. Presumably this means that there will be 2 Zelda remakes before we see a new Zelda game on the WiiU!
I'm now wondering if it will even arrive for this console at all, they're probably porting it to the NX given that that seems to be where their expertise lies these days lolololol.
I'm massively pissed of at Nintendo for pursuing remakes - and now even working on a whole new f*****g console! - before delivering on its original IP. The ONLY thing you buy a Nintendo console for is their original IP, and they've been lazy as f***. Its clear that they've given up on the WiiU rather than actually put the effort into being innovative with the hardware they pioneered.
Meanwhile their online service is still a gigantic bag of d**** compared to XBox Live, which is saying something because Live is hardy stellar!
We still don't have a Mario Galaxy sucessor unless I'm mistaken, 3D world is really a platformer still, right? Mario Kart was a letdown IMO it was very derivative. But hey, we got 2 NES remixes!
Too little, too late. I'm done with Nintendo. Enjoy your remakes.

Don't forget majoras mask remake for 3ds.
Yeah, im over the remakes, Nintendo are some of the worst because they seem to be trying to push remakes as if they make up for a s*** line up of actual new titles, but I'm over all the hd remakes in general. Its just an excuse to sell a game to people multiple times and a way to monetise nostalgia.

Fans sit there begging for these re-releases, so they do them, and they sell lots of units. I don't see the issue. They outsource them to other studios, so it's not taking the time or resources of their internal teams.
PS4 has had every Naughty Dog game from the PS3 re-released, plus Journey, Resident Evil (which was a remake of a remake), Tomb Raider, and more. Xbone also got some of those, plus all of the Halo games, and I don't know what others. People want them, so what's the huge problem with Zelda getting the same treatment? They pay a studio to do it, it gets done, people are happy, Micorsoft/Sony/Nintendo profit. There's not much of a downside.
Of course they're working on a new console. So are Sony and Microsoft. New consoles start R&D before they latest one is even being sold. All the talk about announced games getting canned for the NX is a load of s***. People know nothing about that console, other than 2 letters. People don't even know if it's a handheld or a home console. It could legitimately be either.
I guess it comes down to why you buy a console. I only buy consoles for their exclusive games, because anything else is available cheaper and better in every appreciable way on PC. The lack of third party content on Nintendo home consoles is a legitimate gripe if you only buy a single gaming platform, but for people like me—who only care about exclusives—a PC + Wii U gives more variety than any other console.

Fine then, they're just outright failing to deliver what they need to?
Despite having enough bank to last until 2050 (or so I hear) we still don't have a new true Mario 3D game, no Starfox, no Zelda. But hey, remakes and a new console on the way!
F*** Nintendo. The WiiU is very likely my last Ninty buy.

"True" according to you? 3D World was the first modern Mario game I enjoyed enough to actually complete in its entirety. Star Fox is out Q1 next year. Zelda isn't far away, and it's looking to be the first real shake-up the series has seen since Ocarina of Time.
And you're happy with what you've got on the U after 2 years? You gotta be f***en s***ting me.
Uh, yes? I'm a fan of Nintendo games, and they've released a bunch of Nintendo games. I got 2 great Marios, Pikmin, Mario Kart, the best Smash Bros to date (I'd have bought the console for this game alone), Donkey Kong, Mario Maker, Yoshi's Wooly World (a sequel to my favourite platformer of all time), Wind Waker HD (gasp—shock—horror—a remake!), and a bunch of Virtual Console games for $0.30 a pop. It's not a mind-boggling number, sure, but worth the price of admission, and more games than I would have bought on the PS4 and Xbone combined.
I walked down the PS4 isle at JB HiFi today (because I do plan on getting a PS4 some day), and I looked for exclusives I'd like to play. Not one. Lots of third party games, sure, but any of those I want I play on PC. What does it have at the moment? A HD collection of the Uncharted games, Bloodborne (which I'm not interested in, because I didn't like Dark Souls at all)... Ummm, Infamous? Not interested in that either, got bored quick with the second one. That's it. I might get it when the new Uncharted comes out.
XBone is an even sadder state of affairs for me. Killer Instinct was probably the only game I was even remotely interested it, but that's coming to PC now anyway.
F*** Nintendo. The WiiU is very likely my last Ninty buy.
That's fine, I'm not trying to convince you otherwise, I just don't think it's as objectively awful as you make it out to be. For someone who really loves Nintendo's IPs, I'm a lot happier than I was with the Wii.
It was mostly the controls. I don't know, it just felt really clumsy to me, which is exactly why I can't stand Monster Hunter either. I'm all for hardcore melee combat games, but something about Dark Souls just put me off to the point I couldn't put any more than like 30 minutes into it. I may very well love Bloodborne if I were to play it, but yeah, I just don't care enough to buy a console just for that.
even on the pc where you had to jump through some hoops to set them up!
its easily the most rewarding game series ive ever played, just due to how difficult it was and how it forced you to learn and improve constantly, and how there were so many different ways you could take on the challenge.
the depth of game play was insane, when you look at the different classes and how their attributes affected the actual ingame sword play.
in fact ive just got a boner frothing about it in this post.
Think I'm just gonna leave it Mids, we obviously have different expectations ... not a lot of common ground here if you would be happy with the console if it had one good game :)
All G. Its our differences that make the Universe bearable.
Yeah, I'm certainly not saying Nintendo have done as best job as they could have, that's completely obvious. Unfortunately, the rule of thumb for last few Nintendo home consoles has been 'only buy it if you really love Nintendo games.'
Which would be fine, if they didn't specifically introduce the Wii-U with promises of catering to a broader range of 'core' gamers and showing off a bunch of really cool demos that promised some pretty cool potential for asymmetrical gameplay. Like hoggy I remember geeking way the f*** out at the thought of a game where its like one guy playing the DM using the tablet and four other people playing through the world hes manipulating/building, but none of that ever eventuated. Thats what pisses me off about the Wii-U, the broken promises and the squandered potential.
Yeah, Microsoft and Sony haven't done anything particularly new or revolutionary with the XB1 or the PS4, but they never really promised to either, you buy one and you get what you expect. Nintendo on the other hand did a huge bait and switch.
Yeah, well I won't argue with that. Other than a handful of titles, there hasn't really been anything that wouldn't have worked perfectly well without the gamepad. In fact, I just leave the gamepad in the charging dock for my favourite games on the system.
