As part of a recent Microsoft industry keynote the company confirmed that AMD's FidelityFX is coming to Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S as part of the developer toolkit. What does this mean for the games we'll play? Well, long story short -- they'll look better. Longer story after the jump.
It all boils down to the graphics hardware inside the next-gen Xbox consoles being built using the same RDNA 2 architecture found in AMD's line-up of Radeon RX 6000 series graphics cards -- check out

This means easy integration of FidelityFX technologies like Contrast Adaptive Sharpening (CAS), Variable Shading, and AMD's ray-traced shadow Denoiser. The result will be crisper and more detailed images that will take advantage of the hardware and DirectX 12 features in addition to better ray-tracing performance. On the PC side FidelityFX can already be found in games like Dirt 5, Microsoft Flight Simulator, World of Warcraft: Shadowlands, and the upcoming Resident Evil Village.
With integration into the Xbox dev kit we should start seeing a wider adoption of the tech which will of course work alongside Microsoft's own DirectX 12.
