Earlier today Apple did its annual presentation where it unveiled its latest line of gadgets that made last year's versions look ancient, crusty, and totes like old-school fax machines. Yep, the iPhone 7 is faster, better, and all that. But in a surprise announcement Nintendo's own Shigeru Miyamoto took to the stage to announce 'Super Mario Run' for iOS. A Mario-themed runner with simple controls and that unmistakable Nintendo charm.

Check it out.

This is a pretty big deal for Nintendo, as after years of shying away from traditional mobile gaming this is very much a Super Mario iPhone game. One overseen by Shigeru Miyamoto, and one that simplifies the series' traditional precision platforming to a one-handed touch-based affair.

How this will impact Mario's legacy remains to be seen. And with the Nintendo NX rumoured to be a portable mobile hybrid, could this affect how that system is ultimately perceived? Either way Super Mario Run is probably too simple an experience to be anything but a fun, Nintendo created diversion on the iPhone when it launches in December.
