Alleged Doom 4 Concept Art Leaked, Bethesda Responds to Cancellation Rumours

4Chan, that oh-so reliable place on the Internet, has played host to a stack of alleged Doom 4 concept art pieces that actually do look like they could have emerged from within id's databanks, but they also came accompanied with yet another claim the game had been cancelled.

Joystiq then contacted Bethesda for a statement where head of marketing and PR, Pete Hines, told them "DOOM 4 isn't cancelled", and that when they're "ready to talk about it and show it off" they would "let everyone know". This isn't the first time the game has been declared dead in the water, but each and every time Bethesda refutes any such cancellation and reiterates that it is still very much in production.

So, as usual, take everything here with a grain of salt, especially the accompanying leaked screens, but as mentioned earlier in the post, they do look well megatextured and in league with id's last effort, RAGE.

Plenty of light there. Dont see the environment being scary unless they make you go through them @ night. Similar to stalker - no problems during the day, scary as s*** during the night.

Concept Art typically means drawings and sketches, right? If these are drawings I'm not sure why you've mentioned MegaTextures and RAGE?

Doesn't look like concept art to me, it's pretty convincingly in-engine id-tech 5 rendering imo. I'd say it's more likely to be early revisions of some campaign maps from the game, kind of like the Qtest maps were different from their final versions.

They're environmental concept pieces, apparently built in-engine. Devs do that sometimes to prove the transition between actual concept art and in-game art

Wow they sure are taking Doom on a new direction if this is true. Still, I hardly care about Doom 4 when there should be a Hexen 3 instead. Criminal that series hasn't had a new game in like 12 years.

4chan link isn't working for me.

I agree though, the visuals do look have a similar feel to RAGE. I wouldn't be surprised if they are genuines and if so, I like the look of it thus far.

A level or 2 maybe, not that many varied, different environment types
