The ultra-thin, stylish, and sturdy chassis of the Alienware m15 definitely turned a few heads when it made its debut late last year. And now with the announcement of the bigger Alienware m17 (mainly in terms of display size) this new pair of ultra-thin gaming laptops from Alienware is set to get a NVIDIA GeForce RTX Max-Q powered makeover in 2019.

Which is something we're seeing from a number of hardware manufacturers at CES 2019. Which is pretty exciting stuff considering that gaming laptops have mostly been powered by the 10-series NVIDIA GeForce GTX graphics cards for a couple of years now. And in terms of power the prospect of the high-end Alienware m17, powered by an 8th gen Intel Core i9 processor and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 Max-Q, in a thin and lightweight 2.63 Kg package - sounds incredible.

And looks it too. The only difference in thickness between the existing m15 and the new m17 is 2mm (21mm versus 23mm).

The only downside that we can see being that the display on the m17 is limited to either a 1080p or 4K 60Hz 17.3" image. We're still pinning for a 144 Hz 1440p display in a gaming laptop - which feels like the perfect sweet spot. Outside of the main hardware the new m17 is also set to feature proprietary cooling in addition to all of the advance features found in high-end Alienware products like multiple USB 3.1 Ports, Thunderbolt 3, gigabit Ethernet, and HDMI output.

Local pricing and availability of the m17 to be confirmed.

UPDATE: Alienware m17 will have local pricing starting at $3499 and will be available from January 30. The Alienware m15 with the new Intel Core i9 processors and latest NVIDIA GeForce RTX graphics will set you back $5499 from he same date.
