Activision Blizzard has reported earnings for the second quarter of its current fiscal year today, bringing in $970 million in net revenue, a slight decrease compared to the $1.05 billion for the second quarter or last year. The quarter did however beat estimates of $910 million.

"Our better-than-expected performance was driven by continued strong digital sales from Blizzard Entertainment's World of Warcraft, Diablo 3: Reaper of Souls, and Blizzard Entertainment's newest franchise, Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft, which recently launched on the iPad and continues to be well received by audiences around the world," said Bobby Kotick, CEO of Activision Blizzard.

Kotick also stated that over the coming months, Activision expects to "release some of the very best games in our company’s history." World of Warcraft's next expansion Warlords of Draenor, has already garnered 1.5 million pre-orders, and Destiny, Skylanders Trap Team and Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare are expected to have a large number of sales. Kotick also believes that Destiny "will be the largest new intellectual property launch in video game history."

Activision also revealed that overall sales for action RPG Diablo 3 have passed 20 million units. This figure includes the PC and console versions of the game, as well as the Reaper of Souls expansion. Looking ahead, Activision revised its expected earnings for the entire 2014 calendar year from $4.22 billion, to $4.24 billion.
