Activision Blizzard is reporting a quite large sum of net revenue in their latest financial report, with an $841 million intake compared to their previous $754 million for the third quarter of 2011. Games like World of Warcraft: Mists of Pandaria, Diablo 3 and Skylanders Spyro's Adventure have been noted as high performers, with mentions to record breaking sales for each title.
The financial report also goes on to state that World of Warcraft's most recent expansion, Mists of Pandaria, has sold approximately 2.7 million copies on its first week of release. Comparing the results to previous expansions, it sits below Wrath of the Lich King (2.8 million) and Cataclysm (3.3 million). The report also details that the release of Mists of Pandaria in China marks what the company believes to "be the first time any game has officially released in China as part of a global launch." World of Warcraft was also confirmed to have more than 10 million subscribers.
Activision Chief Financial Officer Dennis Durkin reports during a financial call that the company now has $3.4 billion in cash and investments, and no debt to speak of. The company has now raised its outlook for calendar year 2012 from the estimates it provided on August 2, 2012, from from $4.3 billion to $4.6 billion.
Blizzard president Michael Morhaime has also confirmed that an expansion will be coming to Diablo 3, with details still being held tightly. During the financial call, Michael mentioned that "we do have an expansion plan for [Diablo III]. I don’t have any timeline to talk about," going on to say that "I think the most important thing for us always comes down to the quality of the expansion and the gameplay, so that will be a big factor in terms of driving our schedule."
