Microsoft have sent out a big new announcement detailing an expansion of the media offerings over Xbox Live for Xbox 360 and although the exhaustive list will probably leave you a little envious of the options available to US customers, there are a couple of new surprises for Australian users in there:
Adding to the existing premium TV content with FOXTEL on Xbox 360 will be ABC iView, SBS ON DEMAND, YouTube, Daily Motion and Crackle; all available on Xbox LIVE in December.

Xbox has also partnered with Australia’s largest online content publisher, ninemsn, to provide the latest video content from Nine News, Today, Wide World of Sports and CelebrityFIX TV on Xbox LIVE.
The Xbox Dash Update bringing Kinect Voice control is due tomorrow on December 6th 2011 and these new media options are promised for "Later in December". Check out the full international schedule in this complete press release.

MS continue to behave like a bunch of a******* - Free video streaming services like iView and SBS on Demand shouldn't be packaged as premium content.

Apparently BBC wanted to make their video streaming service available to all users, but got refused when Microsoft said they would only include the content if it was for Gold members. So BBC wanted to give something away for free, but Microsoft insist that the free content would only be available if they could sell it as some sort of perk.

ABC TV and partnering ISPs are unable to unmeter iview on this device. For details please visit abc.net.au/iview/help.
Important little ditty i feel...

Oh silly me, further research shows
ABC servers are currently only able to provide unmetering via Flash streaming servers. We are hoping to resolve this limitation in future, in the meantime iview is metered for all users on non-Flash devices.
