Which isn't to say the turn-based RPG series
Ubisoft has worked on with
South Park Studios (now
Park Country) is done and dusted, that partnership in all likelihood is still ongoing. Rather, as part of
a massive deal that saw Park Country, wholly-owned by
Matt and
Trey, net just under a billion dollars from
ViacomCBS for
South Park and South Park-related projects, some of those dollarydoos are headed towards a new game, and this time from in-house and in full 3D.
Speculation is suggesting the new videogame venture could be an expanded South Park Universe joint, as wording around the project via the Bloomberg link above expressly points out the game would be "set in the world of “South Park”."
The reasoning behind that idea is that the same mega-million dollar deal will allow Matt and Trey to add new movies to a further six seasons of the show, all of which will be designed to "expand on the existing world of “South Park” and introduce new concepts and characters", the report suggests.
Matt and Trey have always been massive on games and the culture of gaming. The landmark episode of South Park, "
Make Love, Not Warcraft" was South Park Studios' first major step in showcasing the creators' love of games, which has never waned since with everything from the
Wii right through to
Red Dead Redemption II and beyond all permeating the show in more meaningful ways than just as cultural name-drops.
To make their own title in-house, with no external input could be the exact game they've always wanted to make.
