Microsoft has just announced (
and previewed) that a new Xbox Store rebuilt from the ground up is going into beta on August 5 for Xbox Insiders.
According to Microsoft this new storefront is more than twice as fast as the previous Xbox Store and it launches in under two seconds. This is good news and something (based on the current sluggish storefront) we’ve been waiting for.
“Our goal is to provide an inclusive and intuitive experience for everyone,” Cody Bird, Principal Program Manager at Xbox writes. “And we’re committed to making it easier than ever to find your next favorite game, app, movie, or TV show. This starts with a fully redesigned navigation system, allowing you to jump between shopping experiences in a snap or deep dive into something specific.”
Here’s a few shots of the new look storefront.
“We’ve also made it easier than ever to shop across four generations of great Xbox content by enabling customers to view pricing while browsing for new Xbox One games and backward compatible Xbox 360 and original Xbox titles,” adds Cody in describing some of the new quality of life improvements, noting that a wishlist is also coming.
New features like being able to select and watch trailers much more efficiently sound cool, plus the ability to see the price of backward compatible titles without having to open up each title individually is a big “finally!” moment. The new design definitely looks like it will make finding games easier, in addition to things like DLC, movies, and apps.
Fans of a good bargain will also be pleased to hear that new discounts and offers and
Xbox Game Pass additions are much more streamlined in the new storefront. In terms of release we should see this pop up before the arrival of a certain shiny new console later this year.
