With the release of the new NVIDIA GeForce RTX series of cards, the only way in which you can really enjoy (and marvel) at real-time ray-tracing is via EA and DICE's Battlefield V. The results are definitely impressive, so it's great to see that 3DMark has been updated with a new ray-tracing specific demo called Port Royal.

Which will run on any graphics card that supports the new Microsoft DirectX Raytracing API. The demo specifically sets out to "enhance reflections, shadows, and other effects that are difficult to achieve with traditional rendering techniques". And you can see the results (captured in 1440p) below.

Described as a "realistic and practical example" of real-time ray-tracing, performance is said to be fairly stable and the Port Royal demo was created with input from AMD, Intel, NVIDIA, and Microsoft. Port Royal is available now as part of 3DMark Advanced Edition and 3DMark Professional Edition - via Steam and UL Benchmarks. We plan on running the demo via both the GeForce RTX 2060 and 2080 Ti - so keep an eye out for our in-depth ray-tracing impressions soon.
