Although many fans, including us, were expecting a full-on remaster for the original Red Dead Redemption (2010) from Rockstar Games - it turns out that what was happening behind the scenes was a port of the previous PS3 and Xbox 360-only game to modern consoles the PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch. The sad news, still no PC.
What about PS5? You're probably asking or thinking. Well, it'll work on the console thanks to backward compatibility - but it will be limited to the PlayStation 4 Pro presentation of 4K 30fps. What about Xbox One? You're probably also asking or thinking. Well, as the game has already been playable on all Xbox consoles via Xbox 360 backward compatibility for years, there's not much reason to port the game over. Per the trailer below, this is a straight-up higher resolution port of the game with nothing new in way of visuals or textures - though it does arrive with the Undead Nightmare expansion as part of the rlease. What's remarkable is just how well it holds up visually—dated, sure, but still impressive to see in motion. Experience the epic Western adventure Red Dead Redemption and its groundbreaking zombie-horror companion, Undead Nightmare, as both games come to the Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4 for the first time in a single package. In a new conversion by Double Eleven Studios, the Switch and PS4 versions bring the two classic experiences together again for both new players and original fans to enjoy across modern consoles, including backwards compatibility with the PlayStation 5. Red Dead Redemption arrives on PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch on August 17, with a physical release coming in October. |
