But that's not bad, as the first-person RPG set in the Pillars of Eternity universe is all about story, characters, and companions. In fact based on interviews with the development team after the game's big Xbox Games Showcase reveal, companions aren't optional - in Avowed, it's all about exploring and adventuring as a tight-knit crew with swords, spells, and flintlock pistols in hand.

In fact, the first companion you will find is Kai who narrates the gameplay trailer below.



"In Avowed, you’ll explore the Living Lands, a plagued, wild island set in the world of Eora," writes Feargus Urquhart, Studio Head, Obsidian Entertainment. "The Living Lands are full of mysteries and secrets, danger and adventure, and choice and consequences. Unique to the world of Eora, the Living Lands is home to bustling port towns and rolling hills adorned with weird and fantastical plant life. Every part of the Living Lands is home to its own ecosystem. Around every corner, there are creatures, sentient mushrooms, or tribes of lizard-like Xaurips looking to make you their next meal."

We're excited for Avowed for several reasons, one being the fact that the isometric Pillars of Eternity 2 delivered when it came to story and characters. An original and fascinating fantasy world created by Obsidian, Avowed is on track for a 2024 release and will be a major RPG release for the Xbox platform.
