When it comes to gaming headsets, we often look at a couple of key areas before deciding to take that audio plunge. Namely the overall audio quality from the hardware and software, and how comfortable they are for those longer sessions when we’re fully immersed in a fantastical setting – or waiting in a lobby for the next round to dive into a battlefield.
EPOS headsets have not only built a reputation for delivering great audio to suit any game or platform, but through science and research, they’ve reached new levels of listening comfort thanks to the impressive
EPOS BrainAdapt™ technology. An all-encompassing blend of science, research, and design born from how your brain interprets sound.
There’s a level of versatility and detail put into every aspect of the EPOS headset range that is commendable, from the comfort of the ear cushions to the handy detachable magnetic mic function. Not to mention the drivers delivering high-fidelity audio and impressive surround sound through excellent software support.

In this deep dive, we’re going to take a closer look at two EPOS offerings, the
EPOS H6PRO Open and
Closed Acoustic Gaming Headsets and the
EPOS H3PRO Hybrid Closed Acoustic Wireless Gaming Headset, and break down what they bring to the table. They not only deliver in terms of performance and features but also in their stylish and unique physical designs. The H3PRO Hybrid and H6PRO can be found in a very cool blue and black design, with the addition of white models and Aussie-flavoured green and gold models available too. For the latter EPOS partnered with Australian esports teams for the 2022 Commonwealth Esports Championships to give players a striking slice of homegrown style.
The EPOS H6PRO - Wired For Sound, Performance, and Audio Superiority
The
EPOS H6PRO comes in two flavours, Open and Closed Acoustic, and it’s worth taking a moment to explain the difference. The term Open for a headset or pair of headphones is related to the cushion and seal, which is open allowing airflow in. This brings increased breathability and comfort for long sessions, lets you hear your voice naturally for in-game chat, and even adds width, warmth, and detail to the sound. For the EPOS H6PRO, the result is a realistic soundstage taking full advantage of the frequency response and detail presented by the drivers. With fine-tuned acoustics from bass to treble, it all comes through with a high degree of clarity.

So, you might think that’s the case closed, headsets with an Open design shall rule the day. But, environment and isolation matter, and Closed means there’s passive noise reduction, something EPOS headsets excel at. For those looking to game on the go or in a space with some background noise, blocking out sound might be the better choice. Plus, there’s an encased nature to the sound too - one that allows finer detail to be heard for an extra dose of in-game immersion suitable for esports and competitive games.
The detailed sound of the EPOS H6PRO enters the picture here too, with the balance being suitable for everything from loud explosions and even a weapon reload or footsteps in the distance. With that little history lesson out of the way, let’s get to some of the other excellent features of the EPOS H6PRO range. A wired gaming headset that is right off the bat physically comfortable. Not only is the 300-gram weight something you’d consider lightweight, but the robust headband is slim and flexible and the ear cups that feature a 2-axis hinge and memory foam cushions to support different head shapes have been built with durability in mind. The flip-to-mute microphone is also detachable, and magnetic, giving you the option to go mic-free for those cinematic single-player games.
The EPOS H3PRO Hybrid - Unmatched Versatility Meets Wireless Brilliance
Versatility in the gaming headset space is all about platform diversity and the ability to connect to multiple devices with ease. The EPOS H3PRO Hybrid might be the most versatile wireless gaming headset available today, as it’s very much an all-in-one. It supports low-latency wireless to deliver lag-free audio in the PC space through its low latency dongle, Bluetooth for smart devices and the Nintendo Switch and even wired support that allows you to mix audio streams from multiple sources. This opens up support to every platform you can think of - from PC to PlayStation 5 to Nintendo Switch and even Android and iOS devices.

Like the EPOS H6PRO, the EPOS H3PRO Hybrid’s microphone is also detachable. But pair this with the ANC (Active Noise Cancellation) and you’ve got something that can be taken on the go and even onto a plane. So you can Nintendo Switch away that flight time, fully immersed in a digital world without being bombarded by exterior noise. With ANC enabled the EPOS H3PRO Hybrid offers up an impressive 19 hours of battery life over wireless too, which extends to 30 with ANC off.
EPOS BrainAdapt™ - How Science and Tech Come Together
Although one is wired and the other is wireless, there are a lot of similarities between the EPOS H6PRO and EPOS H3PRO Hybrid. Both feature lightweight and robust builds, and comfortable ear cushions that feature impressive passive noise reduction. The microphones are both sturdy, magnetic, and detachable. And they both feature excellent sound quality that is balanced and detailed with support for surround sound. Both excel across the board because EPOS BrainAdapt
™ sits at the heart of the design.
"EPOS BrainAdaptTM is not a single bit of technology or a single chip that adds a dose of technical wizardry to the result. Instead, it’s a series of technological breakthroughs based on research that informs all aspects of EPOS headset design."
