Damn you, Diablo 2: Resurrected. Damn you to he... oh, wait.
Ahem. So it turns out the good job on the above Blizzard property from Vicarious Visions, who developed Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1+2, which then led to the team being absorbed by Blizz to become Blizzard Albany, meant that a planned follow-up to the successful relaunch/remake of THPS has been indefinitely shelved. At least that's according to the Birdman himself. VGC reports that Hawk dropped the bombshell in a live stream at the beginning of this week where he revealed that a THPS 3+4 remake was a part of the overall plan from the get-go, stating that "even up until the release date of [1 and 2] we were doing 3 and 4", adding that Activision then had to start looking at other developers when VV became absorbed by Blizzard. "The truth of it is [Activision] were trying to find somebody to do [3+4] but they just didn’t really trust anyone the way they did Vicarious. So they took other pitches from other studios, like, ‘what would you do with the THPS title?’ And they didn’t like anything they heard, and then that was it." I posited this whole affair elsewhere in-depth, being the expert at the series I am, and still think Neversoft should be resurrected (what a theme) to take on what really is a no-brainer has to happen moment. At least Hawk isn't totally defeated by the events above. "Who knows? Maybe when the dust settles, we’ll figure it out," he said. "You never know. I never would’ve thought we were going to do 1 and 2 20 years later.” I don't think this is the last we'll be hearing of this, but it does at least suggest any such endeavour is quite a while off. |
