Team 17 Showcase - All Games Shown at the Future Games Show Event
Post by Steve Farrelly @ 01:39pm 12/06/22 | Comments
Here's a look at all of Team 17's The Future Games Show games, as revealed in its sizzle reel showcase...

As part of what is the "E3 in spirit" weekend of... well, this weekend (June 10-12), The Future Games Show took place amidst Geoff Keighley's Summer Game Fest, the Day of the Devs Indies showcase and the excellent Devolver Digital 2022-2023 Showcase (as well as others), the Future Games Show also happened, which also had a number of standout titles. And scattered throughout the overall presentation was more than a handful of titles from veteran Indie publisher Team 17 whose portfolio continues to grow at an alarmingly awesome rate.

From a gruesome sim to the publisher's first foray into the world of VR, the Team 17 showcase had a little something for everyone. Here's the breakdown, game by game, as supplied by the publisher:

Autopsy Simulator

Autopsy Simulator combines a gripping story tied up with realistic autopsy procedures. Perform morbidly accurate autopsy simulations while following the bizarre story of a veteran pathologist haunted by both paranormal activities and his own past. Featuring gruesome graphics and procedures vetted and written by a certified and experienced pathologist, Autopsy Simulator will be coming to PC in November 2022.
Our thoughts: The sim genre keeps presenting its credentials to replace the subject of Rule 34 with the sort of game you kind of can't believe exists, but absolutely want to play. Very interested in how it plays out given it has an actual narrative attached.

Batora: Lost Haven

In Batora: Lost Haven, players will take on the role of Avril and unravel an interplanetary journey as the only person who can save Earth from impending oblivion. Go on an adventure across colourful and mesmerising planets in this story-driven action RPG where your conscience will carry the weight of your decisions and change the destiny of the universe. Coming Autumn 2022 on PC, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5.
Our thoughts: A classically modern action-RPG that will appeal to a younger crowd while also tickling a nostalgic bone or two in more seasoned players. Nice art style, but not sold entirely on the relatively tropey setting. Wait and see.

Killer Frequency

Team17 makes its first development VR debut with Killer Frequency, a uniquely immersive story set in 1987 where players take on the role of a late-night radio host trying to save the inhabitants of a backwater town in the American Midwest from a deranged killer. The game, which will also launch as a flat-screen title on Steam, plays on classic 80s slasher tropes and popular culture references, and features a bespoke soundtrack inspired by the biggest genres of the decade.
Our thoughts: As a team made up of Gen-Xers, this setting speaks to us and comedy horror can be really good, if it's done well. So there's a lot yet to see, but as far as its style, presentation and setup goes, colour us intrigued.

The Knight Witch

The Knight Witch is a metroidvania adventure game with fast-paced, shoot 'em up combat set in a beautifully hand-drawn world. Cast devastating card-based spells, forge close bonds, and make moral choices all in your quest to save your home and discover who's behind the War Golem invasion. The once peaceful metropolis of Dungeonidas has been besieged by a mysterious threat and their unrelenting army of war golems, and it’s up to Rayne, as she uses her powers to fight back. Coming Autumn 2022 on PC, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5.
Our thoughts: A bullet-hell metroidvania with card-based magic and abilities sounds like a modern mashup of all the popular things, but the art-style and overall presentation here is certainly polished and intriguing. Definitely another wait and see.

Ship of Fools

The recently announced co-operative action roguelite Ship of Fools will be coming to Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S – as well as PC – in the second half of year. Playing the crew of ship gunners as they fight off dreadful sea creatures on a treacherous adventure through the deep, dark waters of the Archipelago, Ship of Fools is a frantic adventure to stop the Aquapocalypse.
Our thoughts: Look, we're already kinda sold on the noun "aquapocalypse", so there's that. But in addition, this being a stunningly-presented co-op ship-defending action roguelite definitely has us interested. Very intrigued.

Sweet Transit

Sweet Transit is home to a world where the railway is king, and trains are the sole means of transportation and expansion. Work to create intricate production lines to grow humble villages into thriving metropolises. Become a pioneer in the interconnected world of the railway. Sweet Transit will be coming to PC via Steam Early Access 28th July 2022. There's also a demo available now.
Our thoughts: Does it really matter? Train enthusiasts won't look past this game's stylish presentation, nor its premise (natch). Clearly a niche title tailored to a specific audience (an audience that is huge, mind), Sweet Transit does not need our blessing, though we are interested in the idea that trains are your only source of movement.

Sunday Gold

In Sunday Gold players enter a near-future London and follow a rag-tag trio of criminals who seek to expose the secrets of an evil mega corporation and the mysterious billionaire who runs it. A classic adventure-style game with turn-based RPG combat, players will be immersed in a gritty and graphic world with a storyline full of corruption, criminality, and cybernetic enhancements. Sunday Gold will be coming soon to PC later this year.
Our thoughts: Love the art and setting, and adventure games are a lure (as is the turn-based combat), but we need to see more of it in action. Wait and see.

Thymesia

Launching 9th August 2022 on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, Thymesia is an action-packed Souls-like. As the mysterious masked protagonist Corvus, battle through the plague-ridden and blood-soaked streets of Hermes against the unforgiving enemies that now inhabit the once-thriving city. Utilise mysterious plague powered weapons reaved from fallen foes and use them to execute devastating attacks while overcoming impossible odds to uncover the truth.
Our thoughts: Been keen on this one for a while now, and who doesn't love a good plague doctor? Closing in one release for this, we're definitely very keen for more. (Also, that giant undead bat boss... *drool*.)

Trepang 2

Also featured at Steam Next Fest with a new demo is the upcoming Trepang 2, an immersive and brutal single-player, first-person shooter that follows an enhanced soldier broken out from a heavily-guarded blacksite on a mission of revenge… and hunted by an even greater threat. With their memories gone but with combat abilities enhanced far beyond human limits, it’s time to fight back, find the truth and save the world. Trepang2 is coming soon to PC.
We don't have to wait long to actually give this one a run, with a demo dropping on June 13, otherwise we're definitely interested in its John Woo slowed-time play and OTT action.

The Unliving

Coming 31st October to Steam Early Access from RocketBrush Studio is the dark fantasy action RPG, The Unliving. An unholy alliance of roguelite and real-time strategy gameplay, The Unliving sees a powerful Necromancer raise fallen foes and compel them to join the undead hordes and burn cities to ash with devastating magic spells across the procedurally generated world.
Our thoughts Love the idea of the RTS side of this game, being a necromancer and all. Just how deep its disparate mechanics go is about our only watch right now, otherwise we're pretty keen on it.

Plenty there to watch and unpack and mark in your calendar. As always, stay tuned as we hit up the Team 17 crew for closer looks at all of these and more, right here on AusGamers.
