All the major game reveals, trailers, and info you need.
The not E3 2022 season has begun in full today, with Summer Game Fest kicking off with industry veteran, Geoff Keighley, starting the Hype Train in style. From a full remake of The Last of Us through some gameplay for The Callisto Protocol and the latest Call of Duty. Plus, more sci-fi horror in the form of Fort Solis and ROUTINE.
Let’s get to it.
The Last of Us Part I is a Full Remake of the Coming to PS5 and PC
And right around the corner in the case of the PS5, with The Last of Us Part I set to arrive on September 2, 2022. A release date for the PC version is TBC, hopefully not too long after that. Rebuilt from the ground-up for next-gen hardware, developer Naughty Dog has brought some of the The Last of Us Part II magic to the original.
Callisto Protocol Gameplay Demo Showcases More Dead Space Vibes
Recently we got our first look at Striking Distance Studios new sci-fi survival horror The Callisto Protocol in trailer form and today comes the first look at gameplay. As a spiritual successor of sorts to Dead Space (Striking Distance CEO Glen Schofield created the original) we get to see some third-person exploration, limb targeting, and a surprise (and gruesome) environmental death.
Marvel's Midnight Suns is Releasing this October
Marvel’s Midnight Suns is a tactical RPG from the creators of XCOM, and it’s finally ready to hit our shores this October. It mixes cards with RPG mechanics and tactical combat with a focus on Marvel heroes in a very dark setting. Speaking of dark, the cinematic trailer above gives us a look at a demonic Hulk.
Aliens: Dark Descent is a New Squad-Based Tactical Combat Game
In that it's not a first-person game (ala Alien: Isolation) or even third-person co-op shooter (ala Aliens: Fireteam Elite). Coming from Focus Entertainment and Tindalos Interactive, Aliens: Dark Descent is a new game set in the Aliens universe, and it's a squad-based real-time action game where you control your full squad all at the same time.
Fort Solis is a New Third-Person Sci-Fi Horror...
Fort Solis is a "single player third person thriller set over one long night on the far side of Mars". Featuring moody visuals and an all-star voice cast that includes Troy Baker, this could be one to watch out for if you're a fan of psychological horror. With “huge narrative moments that are fully playable with multiple outcomes, each containing actions that have story-changing consequences” it looks very cool.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2's Dark Water Level
Here's some official intel on the above:
An oil rig in the Gulf of Mexico is carrying cargo that could spark a global conflict: a weapon poised to strike. The Mission? Task Force 141 and Shadow Company need to board the platform, clear out hostile forces and disarm the missile… that is, if their intel is accurate and if the missile even exists.
Rough oceans and shifting shipping containers prove dangerous obstacles in this mission. They also represent just one example of how the Campaign will be more dynamic and lifelike in Modern Warfare II. Not only will players have to contend with enemy forces, but they may also have to deal with the elements, such as going underwater to stealth around enemy territory.
Witchfire is a Roguelite Shooter
Witchfire from developer The Astronauts is a new roguelite shooter set in a world where witches are real, powerful, and at war with the Church. As per the description, "Armed by Vatican sorcerers, players wield an ungodly array of guns and forbidden magic as they combat dark terrors on behalf of their shadowy benefactors". We've also got confirmation that its set to launch into Early Access later this year as an Epic Games Store exclusive.
Warhammer 40,000: Darktide Gameplay
Warhammer 40,000: Darktide is out this September, and as part of Summer Game Fest we got our first proper look at gameplay from developer Fatshark's follow-up to the brilliant co-op action game Warhammer Vermintide 2. And with that game's melee system brought to the Space Marine world of 40K, the various blades are joined by firearms. With the game coming to consoles and PC, the latter is set to step things up visually with ray-traced reflections and RTX Global Illumination (RTXGI) for realistic lighting.
ROUTINE Gameplay Trailer - Yeah, More Sci-Fi Horror
ROUTINE is a new first-person sci-fi horror with a very cool lo-fi 1980s vibe from developer Lunar Software and publisher Raw Fury. It's currently in development for PC and Xbox (it's also coming to Xbox Game Pass on day one) and the gameplay trailer from Summer Game Fest has definite Alien: Isolation vibes.
Flashback 2 Gameplay Teaser Shows That It'll Be a Cinematic Platformer
The original Flashback from 1992 is one of the very first cinematic platformers, paving the way for the likes of Limbo and other modern day side-scrollers. Flashback 2 is currently in development at Microids Studio Lyon with original designer back Paul Cuisset also back at the helm.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge is Out Next Week
We finally got a release date for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge - a pixel-inspired co-op beat-em-up meets in the spirit of classic arcade games. It's out June 16. The new trailer shows some six-player co-op action with a line-up that includes the TMNT crew (Leonardo, Raphael, Michelangelo, and Donatello) alongside Casey Jones, April O'Neil, and even Splinter. Awesome.
Goat Simulator 3 Coming Later This Year with Online Multiplayer
Goat Simulator 3 is on track for release later this year on next-gen platforms (PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC) and it got a suitably crazy reveal trailer at the Summer Game Fest presentation this morning. Building on the surprise success of the original chaotic simulator, this time you'll be able to "herd of up to 4 friends to be the goats of your dreams, together".

Saints Row Boss Factory is a new standalone customisation suite free to download on Xbox, PlayStation and the Epic Games Store today.
Guile is Coming to Street Fighter 6
No surprise here but it’s good to see Guile, and his dope hair, make a return in Capcom’s Street Fighter 6. The visual style looks very cool, as does seeing Guile’s trusty Sonic Boom in action.
Stormgate is a New RTS from ex-StarCraft II Developers
Frost Giant Studios is a studio made up of veteran Blizzard developers who have worked on classic entries in the Warcraft and StarCraft franchise. Stormgate is a brand-new free-to-play RTS, billed as “the next great RTS”. As all we got was a cinematic trailer without gameplay, the art-style is very cool and very Blizzard, we’ll have to wait and see on that front. A beta is due sometime in 2023.
Highwater is a Strategy Adventure Set in the Great Climate Catastrophe
Highwater is a 3D turn-based tactical adventure set in a post-apocalyptic climate change ravaged world. Gotham Knights is on track for an October 25 release, and it’s a co-op focused action-RPG take on the Arkham series of games. This new trailer showcases the baton-powered Nightwing.
Layers of Fears is Unreal Engine 5 Powered Horror
Bloober Team’s latest horror is a new entry in one of the franchises that put the studio on the map. Layers of Fears is being built using Unreal Engine 5 too, so it’s set to be a visual showcase when it drops sometime in early 2023.
Nightingale is a Stunning New Survival Game
The idea of a new “shared-world survival crafting game” might not be all that exciting (even though it’s a genre we love), this Nightingale trailer will definitely do its best to dissuade you of that idea. Featuring some truly stunning visuals, you become a Realmwalker within the Gaslamp Fantasy world.
You are stranded beyond our world, cut off by the collapse of the arcane portal
network. This catastrophe has left you fighting to survive in a labyrinth of beautiful and dangerous Fae realms.
Your goal: become a skilled Realmwalker, and navigate the web of transdimensional portals. Only then can you discover your way to the magical city of Nightingale, the last known bastion of humanity.
It’s on track for an Early Access release in Q4 2022.
Midnight Fight Express is a Stylish New Brawler
We’ll let the description do the talking here.
You’re Babyface, a former member of the criminal underworld lured back into “the life” by a mysterious AI drone. Your mission against impossible odds: Fight your way across the city before sunrise, and prevent a citywide criminal takeover together.
Engage in a brutal and hyper-kinetic brawling ballet, using every environmental tool and street fighting technique at your disposal. Level up your abilities to take down the mounting onslaught of bozos, cronies, and crime lords.
This one’s out soon too, on August 23 on PC and consoles, where it’ll also come to Xbox Game Pass.
