Let’s take a look at the big releases across each platform…

June is the month when we get big reveals, first-looks, and all the info on big game releases on and just over the horizon. Otherwise (and traditionally) known as “E3 Month”. But, it’s also a month for new releases, and June 2022 is set to be a pretty big one in terms of video games. For one, the long-awaited Diablo: Immortal is set to debut, bringing the first new Diablo game in years to PC and mobile. And then there’s a whole swathe (yep, swathe) of great looking indies; from Card Shark to Silt. And collections a plenty. Plus, Mario is strapping on his boots and heading onto the pitch for a game of 5v5 anything-goes-soccer.

Let’s get to it. Here’s the breakdown of the new games coming in June 2022.

Silt

Platform: PC, PS4, PS5, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S
Release Date: June 1

A moody underwater monochrome side-scroller, Silt certainly looks creepy. And with underwater exploration, you’ll be able to take direct control over strange creatures to unravel its mysteries. Featuring some impressive art direction and visuals that play with light-and-shadow, plus giant underwater monsters, this is for those out that would be down with “Limbo, but deep sea scares”.

Card Shark

Platform: PC, Nintendo Switch
Release Date: June 2

Card Shark is exactly as its name suggests -- a game about cheating at cards. What that title doesn’t tell you though, is Card Shark is a quaint story set in 18th Century France. To that end, the game features some of the best dialogue you’ll come across in a title of its stature, as well as a number of interesting mechanics that belie the game’s size and presentation. Be warned, though -- Card Shark is a difficult game that tests your memory banks, quick thinking and demeanour in ways Dr Kawashima could only dream of.

Diablo Immortal

Platform: PC, Android, iOS
Release Date: June 2

As we wait for Diablo IV, Blizzard is set to release the first new entry in the beloved Diablo series since Diablo III (2012) with Diablo: Immortal. Announced all the way back in 2018, the built from the ground-up for mobile (Android, iOS) game also features controller support and will be coming to PC too. With cross-play and cross-progression support. A full Diablo experience, and a sizable MMO to boot, it’s the sort of AAA experience we rarely see in the mobile space - and with a story set between the events of Diablo II and III, it’s shaping up to be another memorable adventure in Sanctuary.

SpellForce III: Reforced

Platform: PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S
Release Date: June 7

Spellforce III: Reforced sees the RTS and RPG hybrid get the remaster and revamp treatment with full support for controller -- which means, yeah, it’s console-bound. Sporting overhauled visuals, improved RTS and RPG mechanics, a loot overhaul, a brand-new hub and campaign/quest system, it sounds a lot like a remaster by the way of remake.

Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords

Platform: Nintendo Switch
Release Date: June 8

The classic Obsidian-developed Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords is headed to Nintendo Switch, with the most interesting aspect being the addition of Restored Content DLC coming after launch. Which is said to include content that was cut from the game when it originally launched in 2004, something that was made apparent when many players noticed that the ending felt a little rushed back in the day. As a follow-up to BioWare’s KOTOR, Obsidian definitely matched the RPG chops of the original - so it’ll be very interesting to see how the cut content fits in.

The Quarry

Platform: PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S
Release Date: June 10

The Quarry is interactive cinema and a summer teen horror story that doubles as a spiritual successor to the PS4 hit - Until Dawn. Developer Supermassive Games has been creating highly cinematic tales for many years now, and this could very well be the studio’s best effort to date. As per our recent hands-on preview, the summer camp setting sets the scene for “a technically impressive slice of interactive cinema, with an engaging cast, great backdrop, and some cool setpieces”. And some blood soaked scares.

Mario Strikers: Battle League Football

Platform: Nintendo Switch
Release Date: June 10

Mario and sports go hand-in-hand, and this latest entry in the Mario Strikers series (which began on the GameCube back in 2005) sees it arrive with full online support on the Nintendo Switch. Players will be able to form clubs and play in ranked seasons, which will sit on top of the single-player and local co-op stuff that Nintendo and Mario games do so well. This over-the-top take on soccer is something we don’t often see either, and with an all-star Mushroom Kingdom cast, it looks like a lot of fun.

Redout 2

Platform: PC, PS4, PS5, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S
Release Date: June 16

Who knows how long it’ll be until we see a new F-Zero from Nintendo, so why not just jump into the world of an already-existing IP that does almost the same thing, coupled with some WipEout for good measure? We can do exactly that by way of Redout, which in the sense of the here and now, is offering up a very ready to play sequel, Redout 2. Featuring double the locations of the first Redout, which amounts to 32 tracks in all and the best control in the biz for this style of game, Redout 2 is a bit of a no-brainer for fans of all things speed, anti-grav and crazy future.

Shadowrun Trilogy

Platform: PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S
Release Date: June 21

As per the title this is a collection, one that will feature Shadowrun Returns, Shadowrun: Dragonfall, and Shadowrun: Hong Kong in one neat little package. Best of all this collection sees the critically acclaimed and fan-favourite tactical RPG series arrive on console - where it will also come to Xbox Game Pass on day one. Isometric RPG action doesn’t get much better than this, especially in terms of rich narrative goodness to dig into.

Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout

Platform: Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S
Release Date: June 21

Aussies of a discerning age will quietly enjoy the “Knockout” part of this Fall Guys entry, while the game’s trailer (embedded above) features one Matt Berry (Snuff Box, What We Do In The Shadows) telling you to play. So, for many that really should be all you need. If you’re still not sold, however, Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout is really the best culmination of the game to date, as it readies itself for an expanded home on both the Nintendo Switch and Xbox’s family of devices. Get in and humiliate your loved ones, friends or strangers. Or yourself. It doesn't matter because all of it is stupidly good fun.

Sonic Origins

Platform: PC, PS4, PS5, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S
Release Date: June 23

The classic Super Mario Bros. contender, built from the ground up as such, is going to enjoy a remastering effort with four classics released under the one Sonic Origins title. Updates within this latest remaster includes the ability to choose between Sonic, Tails and Knuckles in any of the four titles, as well as all-new animated cut-scenes tying everything together. Because as you know, if there’s one thing the OG Sonic series lacked, it was narrative cohesion and continuity(, he said with a straight face).

Fire Emblem: Warriors: Three Hopes

Platform: Nintendo Switch
Release Date: June 24

Any self respecting fan of the Fire Emblem IP will be champing at the big for this Dynasty Warriors-like, which has now become a bit of a Nintendo sword and shield mainstay across this series and The Legend of Zelda also. If you’re unfamiliar with Dynasty Warriors, it is essentially a sword-swingin’ fantasy series where you dispatch countless enemies on the battlefield at once, working to build out a combo score and make your way from cut-scene to cut-scene to engage the next major wave of enemies. In Fire Emblem, of course, there’s numerous vignettes tied to activities replete with the sort of charm only Nintendo can bring to characters and settings of this ilk.

Capcom Fighting Game Collection

Platform: PC, PS4, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One
Release Date: June 24

35 years of fighting games celebrated in this release with 10 classics (just how many Capcom fighting game collections are there anyway?). Featuring fan-faves that aren’t Street Fighter, this latest collection brings titles like Darkstalkers, Red Earth, Vampire Hunter and Night Warriors (among others) to console and PC, and we implore players who may have never touched any of these to have a look. Street Fighter might be the company’s most popular fighting game series, but a number of these titles give it a run for its money as the best.

DNF Duel

Platform: PC, PS4, PS5
Release Date: June 28

If games were sold on animation alone, DNF Duel would be breaking pre-order sales records everywhere. This fighting game based on Dungeon Fighter Online brings with it a charm and style that really stands out, and could have it turning more than the heads who already have it in high hopes.

Escape Academy

Platform: PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S
Release Date: June 28

Bringing the concept of the IRL ‘Escape Room’ phenomenon to the world of games was just a matter of time, and really one has fed the other in some capacity over the journey anyway. So Escape Academy is exactly as it sounds -- you’re a student in a school designed around escaping rooms. Featuring numerous puzzles to solve, multi-room escapes as well as online and local (split-screen) co-op play, as well as a cooky anime-inspired story, this indie outing definitely has plenty of promise.

Cuphead - The Delicious Last Course

Platform: PC, PS4, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One
Release Date: June 30

As a globally recognised IP now, thanks to its Netflix debut, Cuphead has entered the broader pop culture lexicon as something of a poster child for platforming bullet hell games, albeit one that harkens back to the animation stylings of yesteryear with equally vintage themes and comedy (gold), to boot. The game’s first new experience since its vanilla release back in 2017, Cuphead - The Delicious Last Course is actually a standalone affair, despite being set on D.L.C. Island and comes packed with everything you’ve come to expect from it in terms of the genre description above, and then some.

Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak

Platform: PC, Nintendo Switch
Release Date: June 30

A full-sized expansion for the sixth mainline instalment in the beloved Monster Hunter series sees players take to the high seas and sail to a distant kingdom. A new locale that will introduce new threats, new allies, and new monsters. The expansion will also expand the combat options for all weapons too, with the Wirebug mechanic making a return. This is coming to PC and Switch on day one too, which will no doubt make fans of the game very happy.

Outriders Worldslayer

Platform: PC, PS4, PS5, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S
Release Date: June 30

That Square Enix and People Can Fly haven’t given up on Outriders, despite all its post-launch teething problems and a divided community, is either testament to perseverance, or simply knowledge in what the product can (and will) look like once everything is delivered as intended. And that hopeful tilt begins with the game’s first major update by way of Worldslayers, which features all-new narrative content, new gear and mods and, of course, new enemies and difficulty tiers to challenge existing players and newcomers alike.

Be sure to keep an eye out each month for these shoutout features, as well as to AusGamers daily for changes, new additions and everything else we offer in the in-depth writing and analysis department. Plus the fun. Can’t forget the fun.
