Don't really think the forum is active enough for seperate threads so figure a general sports thread may be the ticket.
Loving Canberra getting into the GF. Seriously, is there anyone who hates Canberra? Hoping for the Roosters to smash the Storm tonight. Dirty Queensland f****. And Japan just upset the f*** out of Ireland in the RWC. They got a knack for doing that. |
lolz, rugby world cup.
afl gf was a write off. no other sports are worth chatting about, unless we step down to pingpongs. |
The Canberra Souths match was great. I was backing Storm but Sydney were just too good on the night. I backed Richmond but it wasnt worth watching.
Now to see if Elshorbagy can win the Netsuite Squash Championship. |
Yeah I'm real happy with the GF this year. I love Roosters because they have plenty of good NSW players but Canberra have a special place in my heart.
Can't say I've been following the squash :P |
who will be the best team at running in a straight line forward!?
i can hardly wait! im probably more interested in the nrl gf pregame, who will they book that the bogans super duper hate!? |
Daniel Johns or give Meatloaf another go at tanking
|
AFL GF was boring as f***.
Souths v Canberra was one of the best league games I've seen in years and I'm stoked they've made it into the final. Also happy that the Roosters made it as well because I put money on them earlier in the year at $4.25 to win the whole thing. |
FU. step UP. ping pong is awesome |
Man I had some money on Croker to win the Clive Churchill, and when they were announcing it they said Canberra Raiders and a 'J' sound but unfortunately it was followed by 'ack Wighton :(
|
Proper dominance by Australia. Hard not to predict when the trio of fast bowlers have 11 tests between them and include an uncapped 16 year old, a 19 year old and a bona fide journeyman level cricketer.
I try to appreciate these moments by thinking back to the dark days immediately post Warne/McGrath/Langer and how bad that was. I suppose we had a pretty good Ashes contest, time for a bollocking. |
we're on another level to pakistan.
|
They showed a bit of mettle today.
|
Managed to listen to a lot of the cricket on the radio over the last few days while at work, which was nice (I'm out of country & working in an office for a change so can't just have it on the TV in the background, boo!). Sounds like Australia is dominating over Pakistan but hard to tell from listening if it was just that we are on another level because we're really playing well or if Pakistan are just not in good form at the moment.
Warner had a good knock. I am still concerned he's a d*** tho |
The big glaring difference is the bowling. Australia's bowling is about as good as it gets whereas Pakistan's lineup is very inexperienced.
|
Ahhh, I got money on Warner to make a test 400 and he would have today if it wasn't for that STUPID DECLARATION WHAT THE F***
|
wouldnt have been very team orientated if they let him keep batting. plenty of runs scored, enough to win the game without having to bat again.
|
They're going to win today with two days to spare.
|
Yeah but a) I would have won money and b) I would have looked really clever for picking Warner as the next player to beat the record.
|
Some real quality stuff here from Australia and Cummins whose average is slowly creeping below 20. Smashing Pakistan is one thing but dismantling the #2 side in this fashion is pretty special I reckon.
|
cummins bowling like mcgrath, just 15km/h faster
|
Hmmm poor Williamson. Hoping he can make a big one in the next test. He's one of my favourite players.
|
I have a closed Facebook group for sports posting if anyone is interested in joining, it's a good feed that covers most sports and supports level-headed, inclusive shares and commenting. Of course, keep posting here as well, your presence is required :)
|
Don't have facebook unfortunately.
Holy decimated black caps Batman. If NZ manage to win this without so many key players it'll be a miracle. |
The mighty India absolutely bollocked by 10 wickets last night in an ODI I didn't know was on till about half way through.
|
Ash Barty just won the opening game of her semi.
|
no she didnt, oh wait, game.
she got done in straight sets. |
the u19 cricket world cup was well spicy.
aussies being d****, indians punishing us. |
Sat down to watch some of the Superbowl today because the 49ers were in it for the first time in a while, then I remembered something happened to my brain and I now find American football to be simply unbearable to watch.
Disappointed the niners lost although kinda happy it was to KC because it was to KC where Joe Montana went after he left the niners. |
I used to play the living s*** out of Madden 95 on the Mega Drive and developed a personal relationship with Jerry Rice as a result. Never passed it to anyone but him and the stupid AI and neighbour I used to play against never countered this amazing tactic.
I've been playing a bit of tennis lately so really appreciate how freakishly talented professional tennis players are. Was super disappointed to see Barty out early. Feeling like the cricket season ended really f*****g early. Didn't we used to get games going at the same time as the Aus Open, and you could switch between the two in a state of sporting nirvana? What the f*** happened to that? |
something happened to my brain and I now find American football to be simply unbearable to watch. The actual game is so disjointedly slow, but that's not the chief issue I have. I find the focus on the people on the sidelines, and the sheer volume of them, to be somehow quite unnerving? I don't mind watching the players, but do I really need to have half of the screen time focussed on some vacant looking goon with a helicopter headset on doing and saying literally nothing? Over and over again? The americanness of the spectacle really ruins it for me. The over-celebration, the tasting-the-cake-half-baked reactions, the support staff's support staff all standing around like stale bottles of piss really makes it a garish spectacle rather than a sporting endeavour, but I guess that's the gaudy americans for you. |
Apparently viewership numbers dropped by nearly 10% when the whole Kaepernick taking a knee thing was going on. I think even Americans are looking for any excuse to change the channel during football.
Favourite thing I saw yesterday was this old tweet presumably from a previous Superbowl: "At the intermission of musicals there should be a very short football game" But I kinda think live sports are really struggling in general. My viewing has dropped off massively. I went to my first Roar game in like 6 years the other day; it was a good game but it was ghastly hot, the beers and food are stupid expensive, 90% of the action is further away than I can easily see, there's not enough people to get the "atmosphere" that makes it worth going... all in all for most games it's just a better experience watching it at home, but when I'm at home I seem to end up on my phone or getting distracted and doing something else. They need to make sports attendance for "minor" games free just to get people through the door |
I'd like to see more NRL games at the local stadiums, it looks ridiculous on TV when there's less than 10K at homebush.
We go to about 2-3 Canterbury cup games a year because the experience is so much better than first grade. Cheap beers or smuggle in your own and sit on the hill. Plus there's jumping castles and stuff for little kids. Also it's on at 3pm instead of night games so you're not schlepping back from homebush at 11pm. |
Really weird watching a match that probably would have had 25000+ occur in front of an empty stadium. At the same time I like it - gives the match a real club cricket flavor.
|
alyssa healy made a post about the reversal of mens and womens cricket.
womens cricket played in front of full mcg, mens cricket in an empty stadium. |
we can no longer post about sports.
|
i will be watching youtubes of this sport to fill my quarantine days:
Corn holing! |
Yeah, they love it in the states, they even have tables at a lot of the bars in lieu of, or addition to, pool tables.
|
Well at least we can guarantee that the mighty NSW Blues can secure three series in a row. The dynasty continues!
|
omg sport is back, including the NRL which didn't die! (yet)
|
While it was nice watching some football I couldn't help but get irrationally irritated at things like the commentators describing the times as post-covid and players/referees out in the field spitting and blowing their noses out onto the ground.
|
This is pretty awesome - they set up huge screens in the stadium showing live video of fans for Danish footballers:

CRANK UP THE FAKE CROWD SOUNDS F*** the fake crowd sounds off!. I want an option to remove it. I don't need fake sounds in a real game ffs. Let me hear the hits and the talk on the field. |
yes i'm not a fan of the fake crowd sounds.
apparently the big american sports and the EPL think it's great and are approaching the NRL about how they did it so well |
can't have the audio from the field permanently audible as there would be too many swear words and/or slurs most likely
|
good news everybody! australia's premier footy code is back!
|
Not an AFL fan but I am really hanging out for some cricket.
|
hopefully world cup will go ahead this year!
|
Epic game between Panthers and Roosters. Dreaming of a Panthers/Knights GF.
|
also, pretty exciting win for the lions.
redhot chance of hosting the gf and playing in it. |
Eat a d*** you blue c****.
#yeahthedynasty |
https://wwos.nine.com.au/videos/nrl/paul-gallen-ag Hook the Fpot + Paul Gallen + Gus tears to my veins please. |
I even bothered to go to the game.
|
Cummins is such a sublime cricketer. I think it's safe to say he's every bit as good as McGrath.
|
hard to call which are the best set of aussie bowlers. Current crop are pretty flipping good.
would hate to be the indian cricket team right now, fans and press will be going for blood. |
It would have been nice to have some cricket to watch at work today but watching India get bowled out for 36 was pretty good too.
|
Yes as satisfying as it was to crush them, i wanted to cricket for another day at least
|
Something I think will come to light in a post-covid world are how detrimental these elite sporting bubbles are to mental health. Professional athletes already pay a heavy toll when it comes to away from family time and the bubbles must exacerbate that. India travel poorly at the best of times, and this is the worst of times.
The bowling from Cummins and Hazelwood was pretty special though. Perfect lengths, perfect movement, perfect lines. I've never seen two fast bowlers bowling better. Kohli played a poor shot but most batsmen were nicked out by absolute ripsnorters. tbh I don't see India coming back and reckon they'll be smashed but my Origin predictions this year have cemented my position as the sporting anti-oracle so we'll see what happens. |
yup, they were both 100% on the money for that pitch.
|
burns is done.
hope young will does well! |
Hard to see them playing Will right now in this series
|
Bravo India.
Hopefully the GABBA remains a stronghold. |
india too good for aussies. well done to them.
|
If India win one of the greatest away wins of all time.
|
Truly one of my great anti-oracles.
|
Also, there's proof that a game can still be physical without players getting clipped around the head.
