Anyone playing playerunknowns battlegrounds?
I stumbled on this game the other day and managed to get a beta key. It looks really promising. Its similar to H1Z1 and sort of DayZ'ish but appears to be built on a decent engine and by a proper studio. Jack Frags has a few videos up on Youtube and is loving it. The pre-release is all sold out. It only seems to be $29 for the full game too.

I haven't played those before but just did a quick youtube. Looks like battlegrounds takes the same concept and applies it to a decent engine. To me DayZ feels like a glitchy turd compared to this. The gun play feels far better and a lot closer to something like Battlefield 4.
There seems to be a few battle royale games around but this time they seemed to have nailed it... and its still only beta. |

Yeah I asked about those ones because playerunknown's basically the icefrog of battle royale games, and he kicked off in Arma 2 (as far as i know anyway). As long as it has Aussie servers i'm in, would love to play BR again without having to put up with arma 2 goofiness or h1z1 bulls***.

Hit early access today, jumped in for a game before i went to work. Much better than h1z1. Placed 21 because I ran out of ammo in my AKM and went to switch to my Mac10, but the Mac 10 had unloaded its ammo for some reason? 2 kills though.

I grabbed it too. Did you load the mac 10 after picking it up? Weapons are all empty to begin with. By default they're on single fire too so you need to hit B to cycle through fire modes.

yeah I got that, but this was a Mac 10 that I'd had already, had even murdered a person with, but was unloaded when i switched to it. Working theory is weapons unload when they hit the ground, and because i put the AKM direct into slot 1 and then picked the Mac10 up off the ground again it had unloaded. A bit clunky, but these games are all about the learning experience.

Ahh yea that happens to me when I accidentally switch out my primary with something on the ground then pick it up again. I'm getting demolished today. Its a bloody challenging game at times.

Yes! I've been playing it for a bit now. Bought three copies for me and my two boys...but the Asian servers suck. BUT the big news is that the Dev's have said they will be firing up Australian servers (Sydney based) this week. One of their forum Mods advised me that the Asian servers are in Seoul, Korea and that some Aussie players might get better pings by playing on the NA servers in the meantime, depending on your Isp. I told him to fire up some Aussie servers, we are per capita one of the biggest gaming countries on the planet, then the Steam community put up a petition and shortly after the guys said, 'yep, Aussie servers next week, just needs a small client update.'
Aussie servers should be great. Best I've done is 7th, and that is with terrible ping and standard adsl. ..my eldest boy has already won one of his first rounds, but the is a bit of a H1z1 guru anyways, where as I am getting use to the game style. We are going to team up tonight maybe and when the youngest lad gets his s*** together we are going to rock a 3 man team, hit me up if you're up for being a 4th man. My eldest boy is pretty damn good at these games... It's is a ton of fun though, I found this series of underground tunnels in the South East of the map and they go for miles into the side of a mountain and you can come out in two possible exits....lots of good stuff in there for looting . Also, there is a huge complex way up in the North West that has these enormous sheds with gigantic engines hanging from chains and such, it near a satellite array...LOTS of good stuff in this location. The funny thing is my very first kill was with my bare hands on a guy armed with a frying pan...hehe he kept swinging and missing, I get jabbin! I was really surprised me when I dropped him. hehe yeh, this is going to be huge, lots of fun, gets the adrenaline going and, well it just works. With a team mate its even better. In the meantime get used to all the screaming that goes on in the aircraft, "China number 1!" oh dear.. |

Great news on the Aussie servers. I read they're running on AWS so it should be decent pings/reliability once they're online. It was starting to get difficult to predict how much lead to put on shots.

How are you guys finding the new servers? Haven't been able to get on because of being in hospital yet again, but have seen a few comment sin the forums that the lag is terrible and rubber banding an issue, I see that a small 450m patch was dropped today as well so hopefully that is addressing those issues. Going to jump in and give it a go soon, alas I have had more bloody surgery and am laid up with a mangled ankle at the moment, I think I am too spaced out to hit the side of a barn at the moment...should make for some funny footage, I think I might record my antics. :) Probably call it, "Battlegrounds on Oxycontin: How not to play!" |

The servers are going pretty well for me and a friend in Auckland. Better than Asia servers. Easier to pull off a shot and picking up loot is much faster. I've noticed a big improvement in the Oceania servers in the last 36hrs. I'm actually playing, lag free at the moment, and I'm on s***** standard adsl. Still cant get past 3rd place...grrrr...

I enjoy playing Battlegrounds. It's got just the right level of pacing to keep it interesting.
I hope they make the differences between the weapons a bit more pronounced, as well as reducing the loot a bit. The recent bug that screwed the looting table was really fun imo. Made it much more varied. |

Its risk vs reward, some stuff is damn important to gaining an edge and while its leaving you exposed i cant help but spent too much time in it hah

Just heard about this game over the weekend, watched a few videos of it any took a punt. Haven't enjoyed a game this much in years. Admittedly I have never played or heard of any of the other battle royal games so I can't compare but this one is awesome. I thought I was well and truly over video games in general but this has sucked me back in.

Must admit its hard not to want to jump straight back in after you die and I die a lot.
luck plays a big role in this for sure but skill is whats needed for that chicken dinner. The inventory system isn't that bad you just need to learn what items you want and drag'n'drop that s***. Definately need good scopes. |

i guess i've played about 40 rounds solo and random 4 squad, it's been a lot of fun
one thing that doesn't drop enough is the suppressor for the automatics and probably because it's an unfair balance thing, doesn't stack with the automatic compensator it would be good to see something like a zoomable map of the weight of loot in a certain particular town, because of the loot balancing eg. The M416 can be found all over the map, but is easier found in Georgopol, Sosnovka Military Base, Primorsk, Mylta Power, Yasnaya Polyana, Rozhok and Novorepnoye. This is because these places have a higher value when it comes to military loot, thereby increasing the chances of finding the M416. it's cool that the loot isn't statically placed, and i'm sure that randomness adds to the fun of it by never knowing what to expect next but those automatics with a silencer, laying prone on a tree covered hill and picking off people running from the blue circle. knowing they can't immediately pick your direction from the sound of your weapon firing. that is some good fun watching the confusion of a group of 4 |

I wouldn't upgrade just for this game yet. Still alot of optimisation to be done.
Especially if most of your other games run fine. I'm running a 980TI and it still chugs at low settings. 30fps in the lobby then it smooths out when noones around. |

Have gotten into this. I have no eyes at the moment though. Find it difficult to see people and to pick up the direction I am being shot from. Best result so far is 4th and 8th. Have two mates I play with and I really enjoy being the guy who circles around for the flank while those two hold the enemy in position.

Especially when someone is shooting with an 8x and suppressor.. Have to really listen out for the direction of those quiet shots rather than the bullets whizzing past you.

My old Radeon 4750 just wasn't up to scratch (5-10fps). Ah well, good excuse to buy my first GPU in almost a decade. It's one of the best games I have ever played. Just played a round with my brother where we were the last two versus the other last two. Killed the second last one but the last guy just managed to pop me. Lots of good engagements leading up to that as well.
How many people here play it? We could get like a 15 man squad going and just f*****g romp some c****. |

The Monthly patch that was due tonight was originally delayed for a week due to some issues, but then the Dev's made a surprise announcement and ended up releasing this months patch a couple of hours ago. Its 5.5GB, I'm interested to see the new weapon and what sort of effect adding looting animations to the drag 'n drop routine that was so much faster than standard looting. Some say it has slowed down looting a LOT. :( I'm also keen on the tweaking they have done to the final two circles because I was always getting rattled at the end (on those occasions I made it there!) I think slowing down the last two decisive circles will be a good thing and lead to more tactical gunplay between the last half dozen or so combatants.

I ended up getting a new graphics card for it. I considered waiting but f*** it I want to play now and this is the only computer game that interests me.
Seconded that it is amazing. It is not perfect but the actual gameplay is fun as s***. Patches seem to be pretty frequent. |

Yes I'm struggling at the mo, on standard adsl, but the desycn issues are bad...I'm copping some terrible deaths that are just so wrong in the world of online gaming. :) Its a bit fickle, sometimes I'll join and I have a great game with very minor issues, other times I actually just drop back to the lobby and get another whiskey, other times I just scream and walk out of the study. The QGL discord thing sounds like a good idea. |

Grr really getting pissy now. I'm supposed to be getting NBN this month...will that maybe make a difference?
I see a game like Battlefield 1, (and no I don't want to get into a fan boi match about the title) but I see a gorgeous looking game, that runs a s***load of assets, planes, people, Armour, horses, bullet projections etc.etc...and it runs very very well on my 47ms ping, admittedly its a multi million dollar engine from a multi million dollar company with the resources to get it to that level of polish but it runs so well. Then I jump into something I love like PUBG because in its basic form it grabs me so much more than BF1 does and I get continually c***blocked by s***** 'core engine' netcode and a f***ed up tic rate on servers?? Seriously, its 2017 people? Yeh, yeh I know its E.A., but some of this s*** is basic stuff to be addressed rather than spending resources throwing in some stunt motorbike. Grrrrr I'm just s***** because I'm between whiskeys, I rolled my Dacia down a slope and when I breathed a sigh of relief because I had survived, just as the car righted itself...BAM...headhsot with an SKS from some guy in a tent, sipping tea in that farmhouse over there. I think I would be a better squadie, I just can not crack 3rd in solo. Maybe I need to change Whiskeys? :) (*not likely) |

OK so right now, playing on the Asian servers is a s***load better than Oceania, for me at least. The game is running like its supposed to, hardly and lag, looting and doors opening as they should...had a pretty good game this round...no chicken dinner though. dammit! * as a side note I just saw a post online that for some weird reason people in the USA are getting better performance out fo the Asian servers than their own Region. Seriously, Bluehole? get it together. I know they are supposed to be the best AWS servers out there but it sure as hell don't look like it at the moment!!

Server seems decent for me but I have NBN. Next months patches are dealing with server performance. Yeah, I'm hoping my overall net experience is greatly enhanced in the next month..I've been advised that I should have access to the NBN by June 20th, if not sooner in my area. Which would be very cool because that's my birthday. :) |

Dropped out miles away but did a flat freefall into Poc****i, found out I was there all by myself had a loot of a time....then saw that the circle kept favouring a finish point on Poc****i hill...scrambled up there got a couple of kills, felt pretty good. Ran to a rock, then scooted across to 'become the bush' and the mother-f***a was behind the same rock I was hiding on...aced me in the back...grrr 5th place again. Always the bridesmaid and never the bride. This was on Asian server, it was good last night but a bit flakey tonight, I had a weird thing happen in the middle of the game I could not got ADS for some reason, I switched shoulders, views and weapons...just could not go ADS...then all of a sudden it fixed itself. Not sure if it was a desync issue or what?
I'm running all my graphics in the game on High/ultra and I think I might be doing myself a disservice and not using all the tweaks and low settings some streamers use to 'see' enemy better. But I like it looking nice...then again I'm getting my arse shot off in a nice world rather than winning. I just watched the video back again and I made some mistakes but there was nothing I could do about the guy who was prone hard up against the rock I ran past...shot me in the back like the dog I am. Makes you realise if you're in the last circle EVERYTHING needs to be treated as a cover for the enemy, I should have checked first. |

The only settings you need to drop are foilage & shadows for an advantage. Not sure if that will be changed later though.

Which sucks because if you go prone in a wheat field you don't expect some hobo up on the hill with an AWM and a 8x scope dusting your bum for nothing. They need to sort this big time. |

I found that the settings this guy changed in the NVidia control panel gave me a nice little boost. I believe it's around the 1:55 mark
