I want to get an XBox One. I just had a quick look online and there are quite a few different ones you can buy and the price varies by a couple of hundred dollars. I have no idea which one I should get. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Depends on what size HD you want and if you want kinect. They have 1 TB HD X1s now which cost a bit more but if you download your games digitally they are a good investment.

I have a kinect with mine and it cost a bit more then the ones you can buy without one but if you plan on streaming they are good for a webcam and the voice commands are pretty neat. You can just pretty much tell the console what you want it to do.

Thanks for that. I've had a bit more of a look. It seems the price difference is due to hard drive size, if it has a Kinect or not, as well as if there's other bundled stuff included like games etc. I will have a bit of a look and find one that is right for me.

All games are installed to the hard drive (it's the same on PS4 too). Blu-ray drives are just too slow compared to a hard drive.

Yeah, all I ever use kinect for anymore is the voice commands. Its a cool piece of tech but nobody ever really made anything that capitalised on it (and never will now that it doesn't come standard with new consoles). Its pretty good for video chat and Skype and stuff too, but really pointless as far as any use in games goes.

I wouldn't stress too much about hard drive either, you can plug external hard drives into the USB ports if you run out of space, so just get what you can afford and add to it later imo.

Kinect is the highest selling peripheral ever that nobody uses or develops for.

No seriously, think of a game that uses it. Just Dance. Go on, come up with one more. You can't, can you?

I would use my Kinect more if I had faster internet for streaming to Twitch. Just acts as a webcam for your stream basically and you can use it as a mic if you want.

I don't even bother streaming with my current internet though because it basically ends up being lower quality then the lowest quality on Twitch. I want to stream in high quality if I'm going to get into it.

No-one wants to watch a streamer who's stream is buffering every couple of minutes..

Skype works really well with Kinect. Its also good to yell at the XBox to pause and stuff. Probably not worth it for most people but I actually bought one for our second xbox second hand because I wnated it.

To be honest the hard drives in XBox are kind of s***** and expensive for the extra storage. If you plan on getting a Gold subscription (recommended) then 1Tb probably won't be enough anyway.

You're probably better off just getting a nice quick USB 3.0 external drive than spending the extra on a 500Gb bigger built in drive. Are they even 7600 RPM drives yet? Mine has a 5200 drive in it and the external 1Tb drive I picked up for like $70 at officeworks is noticeably faster to load game content from.

Neither is really better than the other at the end of the day, and theres no real "wrong" choice, just buy the one that has the exclusives you want most.

The problem with the "buy a gaming PC" at the moment is that the gfx card alone costs almost twice as much as the console would and will be replaced by much better cards by mid year.

I play the vast majority of my games on the PC and just use my Xbone as a glorified media machine but I still think it's a valid gaming option for those who don't want to spend $2K to play CoD.

I think playing FPS games on console is crap, but other games suitable. Especially car sims, rpg's, platform games etc. But not first person shooters with those 'controllers'. Keyboard and mouse much better for point and shoot.

Well I play Halo and it's not on PC anymore. Not a fan of COD and CS:GO. Never have been.
