Typical need help with a new build post
Hi ! Im looking to build what will be my second computer. Built one a few years back but it got old and i moved to a PS4, however looking to get back into PC. Everything has advanced crazy quick tho and I wouldn't even know where to start. Looking at a budget of about $1200 -$1500

A quick look at their gaming systems they are all using the new Skylake, it may be better bang-for-buck to go with current Haswell, as the RAM is cheaper (Skylake uses DDR4). Well it apparently can use DDR3 but may damage the CPU? Or just not work.
The Mobo's are also more expensive. So if you don't really care about having a system that can be upgraded with 1151 socket later, stick with Haswell and don't bother with AMD for gaming. |

Actually on closer inspection, the Skylake builds aren't that much more expensive and offer a bit better performance. I thought DDR4 as more expensive than DDR3, however they are about the same. So an extra $30 on a mobo (on average) isn't that bad.
So go the Skylake build, unless you know people with Haswell CPU's that love burning money and will swap to Skylake just because and will have Haswell's for sale cheap, you may be able to pick up someone's i7-4790 for a nice price. |

I just built my machine but cost a little more than what you're after, however my brother just build a machine worth about $1,600.00 but he reused a few parts to get the cost down.
My brother built a machine with the following; Intel i5 3.2/3.3GHZ Skylake Asus GTX 980 4gb Corsair Dominance 16gb DDR4 (You can replace this with Vengeance and save $$$) ASUS Z170 MB Corsair 650W PSU Save money with a <$100 case Also reuse parts such as HDD and CD drives (If you still use a CD Drive) |

Alright so i went a threw together a build but i need to make some cuts somewhere , im pretty firm on the case but any other suggestions on where to save would be great !

Bam. Saved nearly $300 without really spending much time looking and probably a better build in the end. You don't need K version chips, all chips turbo and overclocking a CPU doesn't really gain you much especially in games plus you save money on using the stock cooler which if you are on a budget is more than fine, especially for the cooler running Skylake chips. You also don't need a 800+ watt PSU for a single card system, even the 650W I picked is over kill. |

You could also scrap the SSD and throw in an existing SATA drive if you have one, then upgrade the SSD later. I believe Samsung have software that will move the O/S across for you?
