Yes, I really stuffed. And yes, it isn't. I didn't word that properly did I... What I meant was for people to put down their opinions, and as much as it would be great to prove myself right, that's not what I really want. Everyone has something to say, something different so even though I'm trying to prove myself right, I need to take into consideration everyone else's point of views, which is what I really need.

Well, not 'proving', more trying to see it in different peoples perspectives. My project isn't exactly me trying to prove something, it's more how that 'issue' or whatever you call it stands in society and in a community.

Apparently not much, according to you. As you can surely see, my "one post" doesn't mean anything of course. Not like I I read forums without having an account, as if I don't like knowing people's opinions on certain topics within games and about games. I just prefer not to post, because I get scared I'll embarrass myself. Great example being my first post ever. Wow, didn't that just go great. So that's why, no, I might not be part of such a "community", but I'm always there, in the shadows...

The person who commented saying you're not a fan of biased studies, I am the same. The reason I did this was because doing a study on both men and female in games would be too broad, so i needed to narrow it down. But I totally agree, and tbh the reason I did women was so i could kinda show that there are worse problems in games, especially online multiplayer games, and that it's not just women. It annoys me how much women get the center light because they're seen as 'fragile' or whatever, because it's rough for everyone, but that's the world ain't it. But thank you, that was valuable stuff guys.

I think you need to work on your questions a little bit. This is fairly egregious:

"Do you think the sexualisation of females in games is a positive or negative thing? Or both?"

Sexualisation is by definition a bad thing. I think the question you're attempting to ask is something along the lines of "do you think that the amount of sexualisation going on is cause for concern?"

You can't answer your question in the negative without being a paedo or rapist man.

Good luck with your research.

I hear you but I think you can distinguish between using sex to sell and sexualisation.

Sexualisation is the pernicious part of using sex to sell, but it doesn't follow that every depiction of a sexy person used to sell s*** is therefore a sexualised one.

I'm not sure that it follows that being profitable = being good.

Recreational drugs are extremely profitable, seems they have their fairly obvious drawbacks. Take all the money that goes into managing the social impact of alcohol for example.

anywho the point is surveys should avoid complex questions, where either answer gives a definitive answer to an implied question.

Definition...

sexualize
/ˈsɛksjʊəˌlaɪz/
verb
1.
to make or become sexual or sexually aware
2.
to give or acquire sexual associations

Sounds fine to me. Unless you're one of those people that still thinks sex is dirty and a bad thing, and the naked human body is evil ... which is why destroying it (violence) is so acceptable.

Do we need another sexual liberation movement? Burn all clothes this time, make sure we do it right.

Sure, why not? Unless you're physically forcing someone to do something, but then that's against the law. You can make someone sexual after they ask you to do so, and that's why the word by definition isn't bad. It can go either way. Sexualizing children for example, that's bad. Sexualizing a consenting adult, that's fine.

Sexualizing = neutral until variables are defined.

Why is the guy named PornoPete acting overly politically correct anyway?

So you're "opposed to biased surveys"? Shouldn't you be conducting your survey, analysing the data and drawing a conclusion from your findings? If you're "doing women" to "show" something isn't that going to affect the neutral standpoint of your survey? Fail.

You've also tainted the results by posting your opinion here about how women getting the spotlight "annoys" you. You've asked people for their opinion and then positioned yourself on the issue, which means the data you collect has potentially been influenced by the mechanics of your survey. Fail.

On a personal note, your thinly veiled hostility in comments about how women getting the [spotlight] (I think is the word you were looking for) "annoys" you makes me wonder if you might be one of those Men's Rights peanuts in training.

Your post reads like "Hay guyz, these women complaining about being negatively portrayed/treated in gaming and online multiplayer, I mean come on, amirite? Women pfft. So noying xept for rooting and cooking right guyz?!? ROFLLOLZ"

why do you specify a 'male' artist? should it matter which gender made the content? is it impossible for a female to sexualise women?

answering your question though... yes. it is ok. advertising people do it on a daily basis & are praised for their work.. especially if it sells the product!

Ok so if the model is asking to be shot in a sexy way, doesn't it sort of follow that she was already sexual?

How did the photographer take something that wasn't sexual and make it sexual.

Clue: making her look sexy isn't it.

Plus learn2dictionary.

the word is clearly used in its verbal and not adjectival form

Definition of make in English:
verb (past and past participle made /meɪd/)

[WITH OBJECT]
1Form (something) by putting parts together or combining substances; create:
my grandmother made a dress for me

The definition I used was fine.

And to keep it very basic, to avoid further stubborn arguments on your behalf:

A model standing upright fully clothed isn't sexualized. Or it could be, if that's what you find sexually attractive.

A model bent over in a certain way, "presenting" to the camera is sexualized.

She wasn't sexualized until I told her to pose that way.

No, the form you used wasn't ok. The act of making someone or something sexual is key to the concept. If they just always were sexual then they can't be sexualised.

Sexualisation entails taking something that isn't sexual and making it sexual.

For an adult, simply acknowledging that they have sexuality isn't sexualising. The issue comes when you deny that any other aspect of their agency exists.

That is the process of sexualisation and it is inherently undignified and so always bad.

Where a person willingly engages in that activity it can't be said that their agency has been denied.

It just isn't that difficult. People having sex is not in and of itself sexualising. An attractive person is not inherently sexualised.

Where the line for any given image or person is to be drawn is obviously going to be a grey area. But there is a line, and sexualised imagery is on the wrong side of it.

The harm that flows from it happening to an imaginary character is an issue for debate. The indignity of being sexualised I don't think is.

For example This is an archetypal example of sexualisation. Clothes stayed on for the duration.

This is not.

The form I used was fine because it was a joke to say "this conversation is too basic and ridiculous", why else would I post a definition of a word like "made"? We all know what it means. I copy pasted the first definition that came up on Google.

People having sex is not in and of itself sexualising. An attractive person is not inherently sexualised.

Exactly. So if those people WANT to be sexualized, then what's the problem? Why is sexualization so bad? What if an actor is open to being sexualized but may not be that day, unless the director says so? "I'm going to sexualize your character", "Ok!".

The issue comes when you deny that any other aspect of their agency exists.

So only focusing on their sexual nature is the issue for you ... but what if someone focuses on sexuality, intelligence, health, kindness, etc? Is there still something wrong with having sexualization in there?

I had enough responses by that time that when someone wrote "I don't like biased surveys", I thought about how people would react if I agreed to that. Risky and quite dumb, I know, but you hit the nail on the head. I wanted to see if there was a trend of people responding with the influence of my post, which I actually didn't see happen surprisingly. I'm adding your response into my project if you don't mind, it really was helpful. Also, I still agree on my point that everyone gets it harsh tho. I just wish people weren't so f*****g stupid and up themselves. I just want to play my games with other people and not get harassed, whether I'm a man or a woman.
I've got enough responses now guys so thank you all so much :) Also, you're comments in the discussion really help me too so thank you all for that! Also, anyone who hasn't done it, you still can. The more the better amirite.

Ducko, I am exagerating of course, but everything in a game is stylised to communicate story quickly. The male characters are just as sexualised as the female characters. The characters hyper sexual, the cars run at hyper speed, the explosions are over the top, the dungeons are extra slimey.

The problem lies in sexualising people or topics who/which ought not to be sexualised due to community expectations. Sexual outfits in Target that fit an 8 year old is inappropriate sexualisation. An ad targetted to 8 year olds that includes sexual imagery i.e. exposed sexual bodies, sexual gyration (any Nicki Minaj) is inappropriate.

Otherwise sexualising is just another marketing tool. If the consumer is not attracted by it they will not buy it. Sexualising women characters in games is as cliched as the redhead in Roger Rabbit.
