::QUICK EDIT::
So from tomorrow at around 6am Sydney time, the game will be up for streaming on twitch, then will be out the following day on steam. So I was surprised to note that no-one has mentioned anything and it hasn't appeared on the news feed, but ARK put out a trailer recently. IT IS SEXY. Have a look on the steam page: http://store.steampowered.com/app/346110/ It's coming out on Early Access June 2nd at $25 USD. (I'm not too worried, they're pushing it hard on PS4 and the Oculus / Morpheus stuff. This is probably the best chance of EA working you'll ever get :P ) Quick feature list: - So basically, it's Rust. Except there are (according to the devs) possibly upwards of 10,000 AI dinosaurs / other creatures also roaming around a 32km square map (on the surface alone). - 32km2 map, then half of that again in caves / dungeons. 16km2 of oceans. - Sleepers / PvP are in and you can be looted fully when you die. Base building is also in, with tech tiers ranging all the way up to sci-fi which can get you automated defence turrets and more. - Mod support will be in by default, as will Oculus Rift support. It's also running on UE4, so it's purdy. It'll also be running DX12 in 6-12 months apparently). - There are planned to be 70+ species of animal / dinosaur in the game at launch, some of which include the T-Rex, Saber-Toothed tigers, Mammoths, Megalodon's, Giant insects, stegosaurus, dodo's and a bunch more. - You can tame them and ride / fly on / use the dinosaurs as pets. Have them defend your home while you sleep or drive a siege behemoth with a friend riding shotgun with a shotgun. - Has single player, as well as the ability to transfer your MP char into SP. - Can troll people hard with cages and ropes. Can force-feed someone their own feces. It'll be big in Germany. - Fully server-sided. The client has no authority, which should solve a lot of cheats. VAC should fix the rest. - Eventual steam workshop world maps and random gen maps - Streamer friendly - End-game idea's and mysteries to solve about the ARK. Something to look forwards to besides just raiding and PvP! - Seems to actually emphasise survival with clean water being vital near your base to live. Temperature and nutritional value of food (including humans) are also in. - Similar system of building houses to rust, but with paintable houses and such. Also has stability, so houses need reinforcements. House falls apart if not enough support. Also, electricity and stuff! - Ability to forage for seeds and farm. Apparently possible to live entirely vegan in-game. - Lots of char customization sliders (for days... Something like 30) - Predator / Prey AI system that allows predators to decide what to go after. Prey have different personalities too. Some will fight, some will run, etc. - Guns will be hit-scan for the most-part. Bows and javs etc will not be. Apparently they want "action" shooter rather than "realism" shooter, which I'm ok with. - No DLC or microtransactions. Devs say they hate that stuff and want to instead do an expansion down the line (with possibly new ARK layouts and new creatures?) - Dev's want to be open and communicative with the community on the steam discussion forums. Apparently the dev team is "experienced" with tons of AAA experience between them (though I haven't seen any games listed and can't really be arsed to detective it out.) - Dino's may possibly be used in handy ways, such as using a large dino to knock down mass amounts of tree's or using an armoured dino to break stones. scorpion pet for hunting with its tranq-stinger. - Pet flier dino's can be used to carry friends (who can shoot) or pick up enemies and drop them off cliffs. - Large dev team (Apparently upwards of 40) - Probably a bunch more that I missed. So yeah, have a look. Let the hype train roll! I've got most of my family waiting to buy a copy lol. |
I had no idea that mankind had compasses and machine guns or that humans actually existed in the age of the dinosaur the last time i took a look in the crystal ball the dinosaurs had all died of old age 60 million years before humans jumped out of the gorse.

How crazy that a video game can follow its own course of history hey Zaraq?

I want a new DayZ badly, but every single one so far has come out promising crazy things and never delivered fully, or is stuck in early access like DayZ.

I want a new DayZ badly, but every single one so far has come out promising crazy things and never delivered fully, or is stuck in early access like DayZ. As I mentioned, this game is being pushed for Morpheus on PS4 and Oculus on PC. As well as that, it's getting a next-gen release (on XB0n3 and PS4) and all the things they've shown in the vids and such are ALREADY in the game. This is pretty much a AAA survival game and given the hype train I'm expecting will show up soon, I really doubt anyone would risk f*****g it up for a quick payday. I think if there was ever a game that was likely to make it through early access, it's THIS game. They've probably got so many contracts with Sony that it would probably kill their studio if they didn't release it :P (pure speculation about the contracts, though it seems quite likely they have some). Zaraq - It's not based around our time-line, it's probably thousands of years into the future, or even just in an alternate universe. There are many animals and dinosaurs from many different periods all living together (Like mammoths, T-Rex's and Sabertooth Tigers). Given the title, I'm thinking the story will go on to reveal they're on some space ship or a world they terraformed after earth was destroyed. Wonder if Oculus will be ready. I know my anus is. Everything I've seen seems to suggest it will be Oculus ready when it hits early access (actually, sounds like it is already). From what I've read on the dev's talking about VR, they seem really keen to push this game hardcore as a VR platform. Oh, I forgot to mention (will update the list) that they've said there will be NO microtransactions and NO DLC. They -may- release an EXPANSION!!!! down the line. ::EDIT:: A vid came out just now from one of the guys I'm subbed to where he goes over another batch of info put out in the Dev's weekly digest: Actual link from the dev's is here: http://steamcommunity.com/app/346110/discussions/0 |
WirlWind: I'm thinking the story will go on to reveal they're on some space ship or a world they terraformed after earth was destroyed. Sort of a Noah's Arc in space, beam me up Scotti!" im sorry i can't do that." |
Looks cool, but I'll wait until it's released before I get all fanboi bats*** over it. You tell us all this awesome stuff like it has never been f***ed up royally before Whirlwind, yet all I see is a f*** up on a much grander scale.

Yeah $25 and I'll go all in too. Looks pretty promising as is.

You tell us all this awesome stuff like it has never been f***ed up royally before Whirlwind, yet all I see is a f*** up on a much grander scale. Sure, but those were all mostly shady companies who put out average games that looked average from the trailers. These guys seem to be experienced dev's with reputations and probably lots of contracts, since they seem to be working pretty closely with Sony (The reveal trailer was on sony's youtube channel and tagged with their logo, I think that's pretty 'close' in a business sense). From the trailer, it looks relatively smooth and decent with all or most of core systems already in the game, none of this "half the game is missing, including entire core systems, but we promise to put them in later", but the game is pretty much already all there. Seems they're taking an ACTUAL approach to game design and are keeping up their communication fabulously in the steam forums. I've thankfully managed to avoid being burned too badly, since I am pretty decent at spotting flags, but I think there's a good enough chance of it actually happening that I'm allowing myself to get mildly excited ;) They don't seem like people who would f*** it up (given their statements on DLC and games being put out half complete etc), so I'm just hoping they're also REALLY good at bug-fixing. Really, you just have to be a good coder (which they apparently have) and not be retarded to get the rest right, so I'm not as worried. They've already self-proclaimed to be REALLY good at game optimisation, so let's hope they also have a skilled tester or two. PS - (This was just an altered mind ramble-on, more than a comment aimed at you. I'm not trying to convert you or anything and I'll be personally giving it at least a half-day before I pick it up to make sure nothing is glaringly obviously broken (Like I said, MILDLY excited, I'm not at the fangirl stage yet either :P ). |
I had no idea that mankind had compasses and machine guns or that humans actually existed in the age of the dinosaur How do you explain The Flintstones ? |
The Flintstones lived on the planet of the Apes every one knows that, also i don't think a 5 foot human could kill a 200 foot dinosaur with a machine gun.

Man who has the time to invest in these massive open-world, MMO, time-intensive games!?
I'm still half-way through Dead Space 2 and Metro 2033 Redux with a dozen others on the to-do list! |
Man who has the time to invest in these massive open-world, MMO, time-intensive games!? Gamers who don't have any other responsibilities? :P (AKA Me!) Word on the forums is that one of the dev's mentioned having Sony's backing as well as a dev team of more than 40! So psyched, this pretty much has to happen :D |
That sounds like horse s***.
Sony just cut some of it's biggest devs in this field loose ... now Daybreak Gaming Company |
That sounds like horse s***. I would imagine that it's actually not, considering this is likely going to be one of the first generation of Proj. Morpheus titles on the PS4, so I would imagine Sony would be working closely with people making games like this to improve the VR. They're not working FOR Sony, they're working WITH Sony (on a part of their game). (I suppose my last post was poorly worded, I didn't mean monetarily backed but rather that they were getting help and working with them on the game.) |
Just a quick bump, since you can actually see live gameplay of it starting from tomorrow at around 6am Sydney time.
Go have a watch and see if it's your cup of tea before the EA launches. |
Just a quick bump, since you can actually see live gameplay of it starting from tomorrow at around 6am Sydney time. Just reminding you all that it's currently up on twitch and streaming, if anyone wants to check it out before it launches tomorrow. Hard to miss, it's the game called Ark with over 100k people viewing :p |
I am an alpha tester for Ark, unfortunately everything is under NDA so I'm not allowed to show anything more than that for now.
At the moment, the two biggest issues are that you need a powerful PC to run the game. I run it quite smoothly at 20-30fps @ 2560x1440 with a GTX 780 Ti with shadows on low. The game still looks gorgeous on low settings. What can I say about the game... 1) All of the content needed for EA is there, quite a lot of it needs polishing but that's the point of EA. 2) The devs are amazing and work fast! 3) Tamed t-rexes are f***en awesome If you have any questions I'll try and answer them. |
When you die what happens? It's like rust or DayZ. Your corpse sits there, though I think occasionally it gets eaten by a dinosaur (and it has some of your items on it when you kill it). |
Well based on the assumption that people with a GTX 9xx are having frame rate issues I'll just stick to Lego Minecraft for the moment lol
|
Hey net are there moar servers yet read that alot of people cant join or get kicked dropped. Really want to buy it but not if you can't join with your mates .looks pretty and i assume it will be dx12 capable on the unreal engine?
