Building a PC for League of Legends
I'm looking to buy or build a new gaming PC for my son.
League of Legends is pretty much all he plays now but I want something for the more resource hungry games should he choose to start playing them. His only stipulation is that he'd like to run two monitors so I guess that would be the graphics card? If anyone could offer some advice on the most appropriate machine/components to use and a good source for the complete package, that would be appreciated. I've recently purchased from PC Case Gear and their service is excellent and pricing seems competitive but I've also heard decent things about Scorptec and PC Meal. Thanks in advance for any help you can offer. |

If you are looking at packages around your area here is what umart offers as a package deal for $800 and $1000
AMD $885
Intel $1035
Honestly you would want no less than an i5, 8gig ram, 1TB HDD. So if the package deals compare to something like that for similar price then its all good. The only thing you have to watch out for with package deals is the GPU that they offering. |

you don't want a toaster for playing LoL.
If you want to ladder LoL you should get a decent SSD and CPU. Graphics are secondary for that game. I play alot of LoL. Awesome game on so many levels. |

Also Plant, I would recommend at the least what Tollazor has posted, the $800 is a great starter kit that should suffice LoL and any other PC games he plans on playing right now. It is always going to be the "wrong" time to upgrade, thanks to the ever-evolving tech behind computer parts, but what is on offer in that $800 kit should suffice for a good three years or so. One change I would make is swap out the 500W power supply with something a bit beefier, say a 700W. |

I basically have what Tollazor suggested for the AMD.
Don't get the FX 6300. AMD are discontinuing the AM3+ socket type very shortly as it is fairly old tech (2011 peak). It may be good for another year or so. For future proofing on a budget you should look at the FM2+ socket type (i.e. search a88x motherboards and FM2+ CPU's) |

a good bet is to splurge on the motherboard a bit, but keep all other pieces in the budget. (Look for the most recent cpu socket type and grab a mobo that has it... Beyond that, mobo features are often just salad dressing).
That way, everything is upgradable/futureproof/options proof etc. Plus motherboards are relatively inexpensive anyway. |

LOL will run on any computer that is 4 years old or later That's what I thought. You don't need a huge pc as it's not as intense on it. But I would imagine he'd want to play other games (possibly minecraft, tf2, dota2, etc) at some stage, so it's always good to think ahead. |

For a PC like this (non-tech enthusiast) I would suggest getting a cheap motherboard (Like $70-90). As long as it has all the slots for what you want, you don't need to go crazy all out unless you need specific features. I would suggest that you make sure it has 4x RAM slots though. I have a $87 motherboard in my computer (i5 3570k @ 4.2ghz / 8gb DDR3 1600 / HD7990) and I am still able to keep up with the best of them. Also, AMD CPU's are much weaker than intel, so for a game like LoL, you'd want an i5 to get the best performance (this applies for stuff like DayZ and MMO style games as well). So basically, spend about $200 on a good i5, 80 or so bucks on a motherboard and you'll be good. Also, don't go crazy with RAM. 8gb should suffice and worst case you can throw another 8 in there down the line. a 240gb / 256gb SSD is also something that would be nice, but I don't think it's super important for LoL because even if you load in a second, the other 9 people are probably from some 3rd world country on a laptop they cobbled together out of boot leather. As for vid cards, a 270x or GTX 760 would be plenty. I'd assume he's going to be playing the game across one monitor and having a browser open on the 2nd. Should be no worries. |

Have you bought already? I guess my comment is a bit late but I advice you to buy a gaming laptop instead of a "normal" laptop. They usually have bigger capacities and specs are higher than the rest because it is made for gaming. Plus it's a dual purpose; gaming and surfing without heating up. There are many available laptops on Amazon you can check out.
