HTC one. Great phone but the battery life sucks. I found that my iPhone 4 had a way better battery life but the phone sucked...
|
Nexus 5. I had been using the HTC One but I find I like the Nexus far more. cheap. latest software and good hardware. also always up to date.. no Telstra molestation.
|
sony xperia S
might be looking old in the tooth compared to the newer phone, but it still going strong, and unless it break thru mistreatment will be around for 2 years before replacement, it has been a great phone |
I've had a HTC Desire, Nexus, S3 and S4. The S4 is currently in the shop for a broken LCD screen (warranty job) so am using the S3 temporarily.
|
Galaxy S1
It's old but it does the things I need. Texting and making fone calls. |
Galaxy S1
It's old but does the things I need, reading books and mobile internet. It's also dying. |
blackberry curve. you must be confused (again) BB6 isn't android no matter how good blackberrys are (also, the curve has the crapper keyboard imo, the bold's are where it is at bro) |
I know, it's hard to get to grips with, but you'll cope with the knowledge that you'll be able to type with correct spelling, grammar and faster than any of those using a touch screen
|
HTC one. Great phone but the battery life sucks. I found that my iPhone 4 had a way better battery life but the phone sucked... I'm also using a HTC One, I have no problems with battery life, I also downloaded an app that helps conserve battery power by turning off wifi when the phone is not in use I can use my phone for normal things like text and phone calls facebooking etc and still have over 50% by the time I get home from work. |
Galaxy S3
I know, it's hard to get to grips with, but you'll cope with the knowledge that you'll be able to type with correct spelling, grammar and faster than any of those using a touch screenUntil you start using Swype on Android. If you're proficient on qwerty and use Swype then you'll leave any oldschool texting system in the dust - touch screen or not. |
Galaxy S3 nope, the blackberry keyboard is hands down better, there might be the odd mis-spelt word, but there is no stopping to correct or select the correct word, and no changing to access the grammar, clearly you've not spent time on a BB bold keyboard, (I used one for years, and have had the android, with swype in some form since the HTC's first wildfire, and while swipe is quick, it isn't the same as the blackberry keyboard) |
Copius, I've used BB's for years and to be frank I find them an appalling phone.
|
Nexus sure are popular :) Has anyone else tried cyanogenmod?
|
nope, the blackberry keyboard is hands down better, there might be the odd mis-spelt word, but there is no stopping to correct or select the correct word, and no changing to access the grammar,It'd be interesting to do a comparison. What's your regular qwerty typing speed? |
Galaxy S1 Why is it dieing? The battery running out too quickly? Galaxy S2 4G - Got it from my brother and his wife for free, it was too complicated for them to use apparently. |
morax, I've been on the sony xperia S for over two years, (that phone replaced my blackberry) but I have noticed that my emails, and to some level my texts had dropped, (and have stayed lower) on both content and speed
there is also a big difference between a mis swyped word and a mis spelt word |
What's your regular qwerty typing speed? bout a 100wpm bro, im the fastest typist you know. |
I've used a android phone since i ditched apple back on the iphone 3g, currently using a nexus and have lost all desire to bother upgrading my phone until it dies. It's a perfect phone that completes everyone of my needs perfectly.
|
I'm still sporting my Galaxy S1 with custom firmware. My setup on it though is taxing it a bit, I'd like to upgrade to an s3 level phone at some point.
Other then being a bit slow at times it serves me greatly. |
Why is it dieing? The battery running out too quickly? Mostly just random freezes, sometimes when trying to answer a call. Minimising the browser to open memos seems to be a guaranteed way of freezing it. Have wiped it, didn't fix it. The internal emulated SD storage or whatever it is sometimes gets corrupted too, and requires starting again. With Samsung abandoning OS updates on it after the 2.x cycle, newer apps occasionally have problems. Sometimes it just refuses to boot and gets stuck in a cycle, requiring the battery being taken out. Sometimes the screen won't come on, even though the phone is running, requiring either waiting hours or taking out the battery. The filesystem refresher thing that happens whenever you turn it on or take the usb out takes about 20 minutes to run, starts then goes away, then comes back again after about 20 minutes. Phone runs like ass until it's created some sort of buffered memory filetable or something, though that got a lot better when I deleted huge amounts of backed up code with like a trillion files and screenshots (going into the media collection I guess). |
i recently got an s4, upgraded from an s2. i don't know what f*****s are doing to their phones to make that upgrade noticeable, but i don't see it. it's too f*****g big and works exactly the same.
|
i recently got an s4, upgraded from an s2. i don't know what f*****s are doing to their phones to make that upgrade noticeable, but i don't see it. it's too f*****g big and works exactly the same. There's a side-by-side list of differences here, if you scroll down a bit. Basically, more cpu power, double ram, much higher resolution. |
That phonearena site is the tits.
|
- Well for starters, itunes is a terrible piece of bloaty crap. How come iphones don't just let you plug in and treat the storage as a normal USB drive? I can just drag and drop my music. When I had an iphone I tried to plug it into my new PC, but it said it couldn't authorise as it had already been authorised on two many machines which was a massive wtf moment. I would have deauthorised it on an old machine but guess what? It didn't exist anymore.
- They're cheaper. - You can actually customise things on the phone. Widgets are great, don't know how I lived without them. - If you get a Samsung phone (others probably have it too) the screens are AMOLED. The much better contrast levels make for better viewing. - There are s***loads more options. The market is flooded with Android phones atm so it's much easier to find a phone that suits you. - Easily replaceable batteries - SD card slots so you can easily add an extra 64GB of storage. - Standard charging cable rather than a proprietary one. That's all I can really think of right now. |
I wanted greater customisation and flexibility with my phone. iPhone didn't offer this back with the 3g and it doesn't offer it now.
|
why the f*** would anyone use itunes if you werent locked into using it!? (by buying a crappy phone that requires you to use itunes)
|
You can deauthorise all of your devices in iTunes and start again with authorisations if you run in to that problem. Not a big deal.
The differences in software are mainly what interest me. I plug my phone in with USB and browse files all the time, especially messing around with music files. Having to use iTunes would seriously piss me off. I can play all of my iTunes music on my current phone because there is no DRM on music from iTunes. I just can't play video stuff or apps. I get what you mean about the price, Apple's phones are very expensive for what they are. I could probably buy an iPad for the other media with the difference. last edited by dais at 19:57:19 11/Jan/14 |
Still rocking a galaxy nexus. This thing still does everything i want it to and is fast so i have no plans to update. If i ever do it will be whatever nexus is out at the time.
|
Gf being overseas and this happened which really showed how retarded apple is.
She put an american sim into her mums phone and it wouldnt f*****g work for some reason without plugging it into iTunes. F*** you apple! nothing like long distance tech support. |
Galaxy S1
It's old but it does the things I need. I also CyanogenModded it just today. Has superbly speeded the old thing up. I thought I was limited by the hardware, nope, turns out I was just limited by the very average Gingerbread era Darky's ROM I had installed. It came close to being ultra-rage-broken on a couple of occasions, I'm glad I decided to give it a chance with Cyanogenmod |
Galaxy Note 3. iPhone 4 look like toys compared in size |
In the past month I've converted my friend and sister to Nexus 5's (both previous iPhone users) and they couldnt be happier. No iTunes bulls*** and freedom to do so much more with the phone is a huge bonus but what got them hooked was being able to mirror notifications to chrome and texting via the computer. With KitKat, switching over is that much easier for iPhone users since the UI in 4.4 is the best its been - lets be honest, Android pre 4.0 was quite garbage.
|
Android pre 4.0 was quite garbage.no |
What android here in the house we have a few old phones left over from work that my <10yr old kids now use for internet and skype with the family. A friend gave my family a Telstra T-Box 1.1 (1.2? - not sure) which I am focusing on atm as I am now on holidays. The box is fine for intended usuage, though I feel its menu system and ability to communicate to Windows based machines requires some work. I am on holidays atm, am really excited to play with it... though I am actually in need of some help :( honestly - I just want it to recognise mkv's instead of ignoring them from and have a better NTLDR capability ( yes - before you say it.. I know what I said there ) NTLDR should also acknowledge newer forms of mkv. Consumers want 'wife friendly' technology... |
KoopZ I played with t-box before my media was available and it definitely worked with mkv.
You can fake bigpond TV system to be your media collection. See here for how far I got/bothered. http://slawed.net/tbox/ |
3 year old Galaxy S2
I'll upgrade to whatever the current gen of galaxy is out when mine dies. |
quite right jerry, other things include
* mass delete emails * blacklist individual numbers from calling/messaging |
- The battery is far more reliable/consistent, the s4 seems to die randomly (as does my nexus 7)
- Its easier to whip it out of my pocket, the s4 I leave in my laptop bag cause its more annoying to fit into a pocket (might be preference) - There are still more (and better designed) apps for iOS, Android getting better but its still a second class citizen - I don't care what people say, and it may be where I work, but nobody ever has a f*****g micro-usb cable on them for charging Android devices, where as I see someone with an iPhone and I can grab their cable - The iPhone doesn't vibrate everything on the table when its on silent - Google maps on iOS is better than it is on Android (and GPS in general) - even Google admits this - I use google maps a lot (esp when traveling) The s4 is a great phone to play around with and do geeky things when I'm bored, and notifications are great, but when it comes down to just getting s*** done the iPhone is better and a nicer experience for me. I'm also almost all the time carrying a laptop on my back so that might make things different for me. |
iPhone does not have a notification light, it fails as a professions phone for this reason
|
the s4 is f*****g massive to be fair. i don't care if i have to downgrade, my next one will be human sized. it's like the original xbox controller.
|
a mate of mine got the Galaxy S3 mini last year
it's the same size as my S1 They're a bit like cars, a small car is the same size as a mid size car 25 years a go which is the same size as a family car 25 years before that these three cars are all the same size: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/4/48/2010-2011_Toyota_Corolla_(ZRE152R_MY11)_Ascent_sedan_(2011-04-28)_01.jpg/220px-2010-2011_Toyota_Corolla_(ZRE152R_MY11)_Ascent_sedan_(2011-04-28)_01.jpghttp://images.tradingpost.com.au/YVZRV76W/5902/6DDPM6-Resized320x240.jpghttp://www.shannons.com.au/library/images/auctions/L3CY1A22RQ7DP5ND/medium/1964-holden-eh-special.jpg |
^ I'll take the one on the right, is that an EH? Didn't they have a 179 motor.
|
Yeah SFB. 149 and 179, and before pollution gear too. Articles of the day said that even the 149 had enough power to destroy the rear crossply's with ease
|
I get over double the battery capacity using Cyanogen.
|
None.
If anyone wants to contact me they can use a land line....or email. |
ph33x, cyanogenmod <3
My partner went from an android based phone (s1) to a iphone. About 2 weeks in she regretted it and I laughed muchly (told you so kind of laugh). 2 months in and she will never ever touch apple again. Seriously the best way to sum up apple phones/products:
Also, it is a royal pain in the arse to do all sorts of tasks with an iphone when compared to android. |
iswydt ;) Actually.. I've put the notion forward that if the next iPhone is s***, I shall be moving to Android. After playing with the other halves Nexus 5 ( on my recommendation ) I can see myself switching camps. I'm sure this will make you all happy in the pants! |
I feel like I'm doing God's work when I convert someone from iOS. 2 so far! |
KoopZ I played with t-box before my media was available and it definitely worked with mkv. many thanks exo I've got holidays as of tomorrow so I'm in play mode right now :) |
At the rate Google has been dumbing and locking down their products / services, Android may not become that different to iOS.
I spent several hours yesterday tweaking the stock apps, unlocking/rooting my N5 and putting all sorts of mods on to make the phone usable. e.g: * putting another launcher on so that I don't have an unwanted, f*****g google search box permanently stuck to the top of my homescreen * turning off the volume warning popup that comes up when you try to turn the volume up past halfway. what am I, a child? * adding a f*****g reboot option to the shutdown menu * unlinking notification and ringtone volumes (why the -f***- were they combined? e.g. at work you'd normally want to be able to hear phone calls but don't need sms/email sounds going off) * logging out of google hangouts so that my sms app is just an sms app, and not an integrated piece of s*** where it's hard to tell the diff between a "hangout" and a text. * re-enabling the in-built app-ops to be able to lock down app permissions (google disabled this on the latest update) * adding a call confirm safety feature (at the rate they keep revamping their UI, it's usually not clear whether tapping a contact will bring up their info, or simply call them without warning) todo: * turn off camera shutter sound (there's no mechanical shutter, f***wits!) * need to find a way to remove the swipe-to-delete UI paradigm. have deleted several photos/texts due to accidental swipes. * find a way to re-enable the ruler in google maps (why would they remove this, much less remove google labs altogether?) * find out why wifi disconnects every 57 minutes * find out why GPS stops working randomly, requiring entering and leaving airplane mode iPhone does not have a notification light This is the one feature of some Android phones that I love. Just a glance at the turned-off phone and I can tell from the flashing colour what I've missed and whether it's worth attending to. |
I'm using iPhone 5 it's awesome. S**** on all Android and Windows Phone
|
Nexus sure are popular :) Has anyone else tried cyanogenmod? Yep running it on the nexus S. Runs like s*** on my phone but its really good feature wise. Installation is really easy with their new app but that requires windows 7+ |
Keep in mind that Cyanogen software has 4 release cycles, Nightly, Monthly, RC, and Stable Release.
|
* turn off camera shutter sound (there's no mechanical shutter, f***wits!) Yeah so annoying... from what I can gather without getting root access on the device and doing tricks like overwriting the system sound file it's not possible to stop the SGS3 shutter noise. No idea why, though the interwebs say it's to stop creepers taking upskirt shots of hotties. If I wanted to do that I'd have just bought a different phone. |
find a way to re-enable the ruler in google maps (why would they remove this, much less remove google labs altogether?) if you figure this out PLEASE tell me. One of the reasons why i refused to update maps for the longest time...until i got my N5 |
I'm using iPhone 5 it's awesome. S**** on all Android and Windows Phone and you are basing this on????? |
My opinion. Which is all that matters. |
Reporting in after 48hrs with Cyanogenmod on my old release-week S1
I must say, i'm not just happy, i'm blown away. I never imagined this old junker could run Android 4.3, but run it with this fluidity? Wow. Superb battery life, all the options built in (backlight notification, swype etc). I'll recommend CyanogenMod to anyone and everyone. It's tops. |
Yeah when CM or PA get their KitKat based builds stable I'm definitely giving them a shot.
|
I found using the smartassv2 is the best governor for saving battery under the performance setting. Set my CPUs minimum frequency to 122Mhz and max to 600mhz and gets the job done will and saves a lot of battery life. not much good for internet due to a small screen, but the integrated EQ lets me optimise my sound bass and treble when i'm listening via the speaker or via AUX cable
|
Nexus 5, its too big :(
I miss my motorolla razr m. |
Personal - Nexus 4
Work - HTC One XL Have also owned the Galaxy Nexus and Galaxy S2 |
I miss my motorolla razr m.nothing's stopping you from using one except for all the reasons that you Don't miss about it |
Has anyone had any experience with changing the battery of an andriod phone? I thinking of buying a new one, go with proper brand samsung battery or a generic branded one? I feel like a phone this old (Nexus Galaxy S) probably has a well used batter. I like the phone after installing slimrom on it and the only issue now is battery.
|
Samsung Galaxy Fresh S7390
Just got it today, screen is nice and clear. Not very powerful though, single core and 512mb ram. Does what I need, sms, calling, email, fb and sometimes web browsing. |
The iphones do have better browsers and music players which is why i prefer them
|
S3. I have a spare one i picked up on ebay for $!0. only thing that works on it is the usb port. So i charge the spare one all the time and just change batteries when i need too.
Our whole house is Samsung dominated due to the awesomeness of All Share. Well, the old version of All Share. Can make the tablet, phone, p.c and t.v play content across wi-fi to each other with the greatest of ease. |
Got an HTC One x, it rawks. Prepaid, too easy. :)
|
Got my S4 back a few days ago and very happy with it. If anyone wants a used S3 drop me a PM.
|
some interesting articles for the phone junkies

i'm running an iphone 4s which was recently upgraded to ios7.
i was in the phone's settings about 15 mins ago and an ad popped up asking if i wanted to get laid tonight. wtf? helpful thread is helpful. don't think i'll be buying another iAd phone. |
Seriously ? that is crap. Sure you don't have malware on your phone?
|
i updated it last week to ios7.
password has been changed and its only been on the home network. double checked all the location and ad bulls*** on it. makes me rage that there is even options for advertising on a phone. |
You have an app running.
Have seen android viruses hitting the firewall. I picked up a Morola Moto G dual sim on the weekend for $243. Only complaint no 5Ghz wifi. |
http://slawed.net/tbox/ thanks 3x0dus.. I didn't get any closer eh :( appreciate the effort though dude. 'Donated some cash to your site |
Galaxy S2
They are pretty cheap these days and is about the size I want for a phone. Need to get rid of all the samsung and google bloat off it though, but I'm being lazy. |
Samsung Galaxy Fresh S7390 here.
Not the best phones for 3D games and the likes but it's good for music, web browsing, chatting and occasional office use which is all I need when I'm out. |
cyanogenmod'd galaxy S1, five months on:
brilliant. I do not know how a phone in excess of 4 years old is able to operate so smoothly and quickly and do all the things i want. apart from speech to text for messaging, i haven't found that. i used to use that a lot when |
i have the galaxy s5. underwhelmed and would have been happier with the s4. the nexus 4 was my favorite android phone so far.
i'm tempted to root it like i had with my HTC desire a few years ago, i dislike most of the samsung "features". |
I should really get on that cyanogenmod plan for my S1...
|
HTC One M8 - aka The Beast
ZTE $49 Telstra Phone - Nawt bad for price I have a few phones go through my hands also - Apple really are a hideous, hideous product. :) |
Note 2 on CM11. before that an Incredible S, also on Cyanogen.
I use these things to browse facey, send sms, make calls. While I love a fast computer, there's no need for me to have the latest phone - just something that runs smoothly. |
Nexus 4 here - battery is getting a bit dodgy, but otherwise it has been brilliant for the past year or so. Before that I had a desire for 2-3 years, and it is still kicking around as a backup!
|
HTC One M8 - it's the best smartphone, just ask the internet! :)
Gave my ZTE rough/work phone to a mate. Still got the M8 that dominated itself too - dunno if it's fixable or not, it seems to be that the Micro-usb input tab is fried. http://i-cdn.phonearena.com/images/articles/115590-image/flyer.png |
^^ I got the HTC One M7 when they first came out best phone I've had my company uses Galaxy phones while they are also nice I just like being different.
I think my next phone when my contract runs out next year may be the Nexus |
upgraded my S3 last weekend to an S5 after i finally broke the screen the S3 the other week
|
Cyanogen on the TF700 last weekend. Runs great as usual. Took a fair chunk of time getting the bootloader up to spec though.
|
I suspect that my next phone to replace my Lumia 920 will be whatever the next iteration of the HTC One Mini is. My wife uses the HTC One Mini based on the M7 when I use it I can definitely notice the difference it misses some features and the processing speed of things is very noticeable, she loves it to bits so doesn't complain. I'm sure the next gen Mini will be improved so you probably wont have those issues but just a heads up. |
My g/f just got the OnePlus One: http://oneplus.net/one
Aside from its stupid name it looks like a really nice phone. Comes with Cyanogen out of the box; it's got AppOps/PrivacyGuard which has almost prompted to root my Nexus and install Cyanogen myself. |
im trying to get wifey to get a one plus one also.
are they in shops troggie? hopefully they have finished the silly invite only to purchase. |
First Android phone here, month or 2 in now.
Went from: IPhone 3G -> 4 -> Lumia 920 -> Tab 4 (8") Liking the new phablet a lot. Wanted to try android and wanted a large size phone cheap off plan so I could stop paying so much to Telstra on MROs. Really like it but I do wish it was just a little gruntier. Has a non standard CPU so can't be modded easily. No serious problems though, I just wish that scrolling was a little smoother but can't argue with the value at the price point (330 outright delivered). Will save about 40 a month on my phone plan when it rolls over in October. |
First Android phone here, month or 2 in now. Same, I went 3gs, 4, 4s, 5, 5s and now s5. The s5 s**** on the iphones I've had. Can't believe I stuck with the iphones for so long. fkn nub... |
I have an LG G3.. It lags like a b**** with the stock launcher. Its ok on Nova.
I don't think i like it despite having the best specs on the market. Might go for a Sony Z3 Compact next. |
Love my HTC One (m7) rooted with google play edition rom.
|
Aside from its stupid name it looks like a really nice phone. Comes with Cyanogen out of the box; it's got AppOps/PrivacyGuard which has almost prompted to root my Nexus and install Cyanogen myself. You don't need to install a new ROM. Just root, install Xposed and download the AppOps module. Cyanogenmod is okay but can be a bit of a pain sometimes since even the release versions are pretty buggy. A good chunk of CM's features can be done through Xposed and a stock Android ROM. |
I'll be needing to replace the Nexus 4 soon, starting to get a bit bogged down and I'm feeling the aging tech. How's the Nexus 5 in terms of tech standards? I figured that would be the next leap but I might wait and see what's announced in the coming months.
|
Nexus 4 is aging tech? Wasn't that the sweet one they just had out until a while ago?
Me and my galaxy s 1 laugh at all you new phone people complaining about your slow phones. That OnePlus One actually looks like oddly good value though. |
yeah Nexus 5 for me also. suits all my needs which is just clash of clans and text msgs.
|
Recently upgraded from the galaxy s3 to s5. Pretty happy with it.
|
I'm still using my S4, haven't bothered with the S5 yet, nothing there that has made me want to move over. Might be tempted by the Note 4. Running my own kernel and ROM for the S4. Makes for a much nicer device when it just has the stuff you want on it. Keen to get into some Android Gear modding when someone makes a device worth wearing.
|
nexus 4 - been a solid phone for 2 years. still feels current/uptodate. would like a better battery/camera though
i'm waiting for the next nexus (?nexus 6 or nexus 5 2014) |
oh nice, thanks - someone had mentioned that to me months ago but I'd completely forgotten about it. When I have a spare weekend and I'll give it a crack. All I want is AppOps so that sounds perfect. |
how do you guys go with these massive phones? I'm still running my launch-week galaxy S1 - it's over 4 years old now. It's the same size as an S4 mini.
A mate of mine offered me his Xperia Z2 for free - I declined because it's just too damn big. |
some people just dont care for their pants lines hardware old chum.
meanwhile, you and i are getting around with out pants looking tight as and no unseemly buldges (from our phones) |
you wear cargo shorts everywhere, you could fit a fullsize tablet in them and no one would know...
|
sometimes i wear really tight skinny pants bro
|
I'm in the process right now of getting this puppy setup in the 'Rolla to integrate via MirrorLink. Streaming youtube vids in car via HTC One M8 4G access and this browser. Cutting edge, yo. :)
Description |
Because streaming youtube vids in a car is perfectly legal. I'd rather have someone drive past me at 150km/h than a toolchest in his rolla not even looking at the road because he's too busy watching the latest Spears video.
how do you guys go with these massive phones? Won't go back from a large phone. |
Still rocking my SGS1 with custom romz. She's a bit chipped around the edging and a bit slow here and there, but still does the primary job of txting and calling quite well.
As a GPS it works well enough, the battery life is still sitting around 18hrs of standby. All in all, not bad a for a 4 year old phone. |
ph33x, you really are a deadset f***en idiot matey. Serious. :)
|
Don't froth at me bro. Let me guess, this will be used only legally, when you park at the local maccas carpack on thurs and saturday nights to impress all the manchilden with their Vtech rotary powered TRD lasers. You'll pick up car skanks with ease now champ, even with that face.
I also suggest under car CFL's or LED's. |
Yeah I looked at the sony experia z2 when I got the samsung on the weekend, a quick internet read up tells me the sony is just a bit behind on screen quality, clock speed and s***. Does have an extra 1gb of ram though. It was the same story when I compared the sony with samsung galaxy s3 2 years ago. Always just a tiny bit behind
|
There are a few China handsets that are the fastest in the world, consumer wise. The S3 had come out and these handsets had about another 10% on top. I could dig up the info, but its all related to benchmarks mainly.
|
petal put her S3 through the washing machine and while it came out very clean, it no longer works.
ive just instructed her to order a one plus one and its on its way! cant wait to see how this turns out! |
Spook - my HTC One M8 flagship that fried itself may be fixable - I think it's just the microusb slot that got nuked, it's yours if you want it to pickup, fix, profit, give me tiny nominal fee. :)
|
too late brooooo, opo ordered and dispatched.
|
S4 mini, but when someone whips out their pocket mammoth it feels like a tampon of a phone. That one plus one seems decent
|
petal put her S3 through the washing machine and while it came out very clean, it no longer works. I need an S3 screen for a repair. |
I need an S4 screen.
It's like looking for drops for crafting lol |
I've been playing this game for 4 weeks and I still don't have a single f*****g S3 screen but my friends all have 5 each.
|
i have an s3 screen that displays perfectly, the digitizer, not so much.
|
I think you mean, iPhone for the lose. Pay more and get less function, sounds lame.
|
keep us up to date with that one plus one spook, i'm interested to see how they go
|
yer man, will do, on paper they look great and now you can get them without invite, should be a good phone.
|
I've got a Sony Xperia Z2.
A few months ago I was having heaps of battery issues with my Samsung Galaxy S3. I went with the Sony because it had the biggest battery out of the other leading phones at the time. I'm really happy with the battery on this thing, at the end of most days I still have at least 85-90% battery left. I'm not a heavy phone user, I pretty much never make any phone calls and most of the time I use it for taking photos and accessing the internet when I'm out and about. |
Xiaomi MI3 running MIUI.
http://www.mi.com/en/mi3 China phone represent. The built in FTP function is something I rely on a bit. No cables needed to transfer files back and forth. Will work with any machine that has FTP. Also super customisable as far as UI look/feel goes. |
But are they overclockable to 144hz display refresh, ph33x? :P

Spook, did you get your OPO from the official site? It looks like they're still on invite only.
g/f is very happy with her phone in general. Has a really irritating bug at the moment with Maps and Gallery - pinch to zoom is broken, so you can't zoom in/out easily (possibly some other apps). Some comments on the official site imply this is a known bug and there's a fix due next week in an OTA update, but not sure if that is from an official statement. I think I am going to hold out for the next Nexus phone. |
nah, hong kong shop, dunno how they skip around invite system, but they had plenty of the chinese model for sale.
apparently they are taking presales now from official site. will see if pinch to zoom works on petals |
just tested pinch zoom on google maps, works fine here. (that is after i wiped the original colour OS and reinstalled latest CM in english)

I have a Samsung Galaxy s3 vers 4.3.
I've done nothing with it other than load a bunch of free apps. What are the steps I should follow to making it super awesome? Jailbreak? Root? Run modded software? Wipe and start from scratch? Charge battery in the microwave? I'm happy to research HOW to do stuff, but I'm just sure of the best things to actually do. *Goals* To get rid of bloatware To maximise video and audio player capabilities To maximise pivacy (the other day I realised Google had kindly decided to put all my photos up on my Google drive. While they weren't published as such, I found that pretty invasive considering it was a default setting). To unlock or maximise any handy features (or is this done mainly through installing apps? - I've noted people ITT talking about enhancing or replacing the OS or running what is presumably an compatible parallel OS - is that a thing?) Basically improve quality of experience. All I need is the name like "oh you should install Rootkit Q1DM4 it is badass". kgo |
All I need is the name like "oh you should install Rootkit Q1DM4 it is badass". Vanilla for lyfe, yo! :) |
All I need is the name like "oh you should install Rootkit Q1DM4 it is badass". Oh you should install CyanogenMod 11 it's badass. It runs on the latest version of Android, and old devices can typically update to the latest version as well. |
just tested pinch zoom on google maps, works fine here. (that is after i wiped the original colour OS and reinstalled latest CM in english)yeh, typically works fine after a reboot for a few days(?) and then it stops working until there's another reboot. Weird bug. Hopefully will be fixed this week though before it strikes you guys! |
Thought were talking about Androids, why Apple is included? S3
