I just looked through a ton of old CD's (yes, CD's!) and found a bunch of old songs that I mixed and had completely forgotten even existed.
So without further Adieu, I present the amazing "Track 06" by Dj WirlWind (I know, it's hella long, but I just sorta sat around and f***ed around with it. Didn't realize it was so long until I finally decided to stop): So I know there are a bunch of you guys out there who do your own music, what's the song you're most proud of / had the most fun making? ::EDIT:: Ignore the thumbnail image, it scabbed an old photo from my facebook page lol |
Back when I was in grade 9 I was at my mate's house (who is some sort of musical savant and is in New York right now becoming the next John Williams) while he was at work. Thinking to myself 'this music thing can't be too hard' I opened up Music Works 2.0 and started making my own s*** by just randomly placing notes everywhere. Here is the result
really bad music 1 BONUS TRACK there was also a time when he was there and I'd sort of hum the tune I wanted and he'd put it into Music Works more really bad music I quit while I was ahead. |

Heh that reminds me of what got me into making music in the first place: Mate said it was difficult, I said it wasn't. He produced a (terrible) dance track that was basically some guy saying "Bass bass bass" followed by 7 claps and a really basic beat. He claimed it took him most of the day and said "I dare you to do better by the end of the week..." I came back at him with a song I did in about 20 minutes and he pooped himself. |
Finished making this in FL tonight. been making beats for about 18 months or so. Can't say I've improved but I enjoy doing it.
|
FL Studio is dead simple to use.
You don't need to understand Music Theory. Its really just moving around pieces of sound it can certainly be a lot more though. heres a getting started demo: |
I'm in a band on the Gold Coast. And apparently I can't use reverbnation.

Op's song sounds pretty cool. I half expected someone to start rapping over it :) I'm too lazy to listen to fpot's tracks because they're not on soundcloud haha.
Lithiums track could be used for an Apple product promotion or something hehe. So chilled. Well made. "Ground breaking. Jaw dropping. Stunning. It's the new iKindle. It's like a Kindle, only double the price of a Kindle and it's made by Apple" I want to learn how to make music on fruity loops. I'm a drummer. Well play anything percussion really. So I can make ordinary beats, but when it comes to wanting to add emotional sounding violins, or a hard hitting bass riff, I'm clueless. Is there somewhere to find out this stuff? Me and a mate jam for hours and hours most weekends. He's a musical genius and I'm just an average drummer though haha. |
Dunno if you'd class this as "original" but I have some stuff up on Soundcloud.
This seems to be the most popular/has gotten the best feedback: https://soundcloud.com/sonofgasman/dreadlock-enemy It's a live mashup I did using a loop and a turntable. Embed: But if you want original I guess this is closer: https://soundcloud.com/sonofgasman/bring-out-yer-dead-ii It's a track I built using samples, scratches and me rapping about my mate who is a mortician. Delivery could be better but whatever. Embed: Check out the rest if you're interested here: https://soundcloud.com/sonofgasman last edited by IncrEdible_vEgetable at 00:52:59 12/Nov/13 |
Killer guitar work Noah, reminds me a bit of Rodrigo (Y Gabriela). You guys been picked up by a label yet?
|
hey noah that was Quiche !
Nice sound on the Guitar and well mixed. |
Dunno if you'd class this as "original" but I have some stuff up on Soundcloud. By original, I guess anything that you've mixed, recorded, remixed (y'know, a serious effort, not just adding a crash cymbal lol) or re-arranged. Doesn't have to be your best, just your most memorable / favorite / most fun to make etc. Op's song sounds pretty cool. I half expected someone to start rapping over it :) I can't rap :P Hell, as you can tell by the song title, I can't even write song names properly. But hey, part of being a drummer, I guess. hey noah that was Quiche ! Yeah, really liked the songs, esp "Calling out your name". Kind of reminded me of the Midnight Ryders from Left 4 Dead 2 (Esp blue blues) I really should start thinking about getting into a band again. Used to be in a youth band when I was younger and played bass. Had a sexy chick singer and rhythm guitarist, a stoner drummer and me on bass. Most memorable moment on stage was when Mikey (the drummer) lost his stick off a rebound on the snare. Clocked him right in the fore-head and he went ass over tit off the stage XD Whole band lost their s*** in front of about 250 people and I ended up holding it together and shouted "BASS SOLO!" to cover. Started playing a bit of dueling banjo's, because it seemed to just fit the mood. |

Try the word "inspired", def not the one using letters formed in this sequence "original". There is a difference and it's significant. |
i've got my mixes of music, but i didn't actually make the music. just mixed them together
don't think that counts would love to get into production |
Can't not chime in here... The trouble is that in terms of talking about music, "Original" doesn't always mean exactly that. There are songs that would be considered original, yet take from other songs. When I say original in terms of music, I'm talking something that you've put together personally, that is new or different. An arrangement can be "original" in music, even though the song itself might be something from the top 10. Just look at the Richard Cheese remakes of metal songs. I don't think many people would say that isn't an original work. It's not that we don't know the definition of original, it's that the meaning is different in how it's used to deal with music. |
Killer guitar work Noah, reminds me a bit of Rodrigo (Y Gabriela). You guys been picked up by a label yet? Cheers man, glad you liked it! Na not signed yet, but we're having a ball so I'm happy to be patient :P hey noah that was Quiche ! Thanks Faceman. The guy we got to mix it works at a studio down in Currumbin. He's a genius. Yeah, really liked the songs, esp "Calling out your name". Kind of reminded me of the Midnight Ryders from Left 4 Dead 2 (Esp blue blues). Haha awesome, yeah calling out your name is my favourite. I used to teach guitar at a jail at Wacol and I wrote that tune while I was waiting for my class to arrive. I really should start thinking about getting into a band again Do it! |

Decided I was gonna learn to play the flute a few years back. For the first couple of years I could only play basic stuff like three blind mice, but now I'm starting to get into more interesting stuff.
Not a great recording, the flute is pretty loud. Love FL, although havent used it in a few years. I know ableton is better, but I just can't understand it enough to make stuff like I used to in FL. |
hey noah that was Quiche ! I hope that doesn't catch on. |

Actually, all of the tunes are pretty damn good from all, well done my fellow nerds!
Gotta give a shout out to the flute guy(potential there) and the rap tune about the mortician lol All of the tunes may or may not have been original or inspired but they were made by the poster as was requested by the op so not really sure how a semantic quibble over 'original' or 'inspired' has reared its pedantic head... |

it's pretty simple really - making a thread doesn't entitle you to defining words in the english language, or preclude anyone from giving their opinion on what a word means Perhaps not, but given the fact that it would be almost impossible for anyone here to post music that is truly original, as in not inspired by or similar to any other music ever created (and if it was it would most likely sound horrible as every possible Western interval arrangement has been done over and over again) it seems like an odd thing to point out. And given that, at least using define: original in Google, the musical definition merely states "created personally by a particular artist, writer, musician, etc.; not a copy.", the context OP used original in seems to match the definition of the word. Nice work Noah, good sounds man! Thanks ronin. Good to see you round man. |

I wish I had the patience to learn an instrument that involved more than well timed banging :P When are you releasing an album Noah? I remember hearing your music ages back on GA. It's killer. |

Here's what is funny. When another person/band plays a song of another artist with their own "twist" or style, it's called a "cover". The thought process behind it may well be original and to which I will raise tasty beverage in salute, the work itself is not. It is simply "inspired". Learn the difference, it may actually help you cover your arse in a copyright battle one day. last edited by HERMITech at 02:21:58 14/Nov/13 |
It is simply "inspired" No what's actually the funny part is that no music anyone could have posted here would actually have been original. That is to say that all possible combinations of notes in Western music that sound good to anyone have long since been used originally, and now everyone who uses them is "inspired". So why get hung up on the definition of the word when OP clearly stated what this thread was about in the title and his definition fits with the accepted use of the word in a musical context? Why make that your only contribution to a thread where people get a chance to post creations they've made and most likely value highly, original or otherwise? No one boos a guy for playing covers at Original Night unless they're d****. When are you releasing an album Noah? I remember hearing your music ages back on GA. It's killer. Hey thanks Tyoson! We released an 5 track EP earlier this year. PM me and I'll can email the tracks to you. Or if you're feeling super generous you can buy it from here :P https://itunes.apple.com/au/album/cragsford-ep/id621704235 |
havent really read all the posts but noah is an artist and he knows the score (some musician pun in there im sure)
Just wanted to put in a bit about inspiration for an artist. pretty much all artist endevour has some inspiration, which may be actually known by the artist or band when they created the work, or maybe not. Im sure artists might be interested to have it pointed out if they had not been aware of some link to another work at the time they created their piece but to say their work is not valid because they were not aware of another work is silly. The thing is that the inspiration be genuine and if known be acknowledged. You cant acknowledge what you were not aware of. If you move in artistic circles this is just a given. Willful knowledge you are ripping off another artist, with no acknowledgement, is another thing entirely. Like covering another song, or copying another artists painting style, but refusing to say that is what you are doing by claiming it as your own song or your own style. Not cool. we all recall this was recent news: |
Greg Ham didn't rip anyone off.
That is one of the saddest stories in Aussie Rock. He played those flute parts in the studio as the song was being recorded, they weren't part of the original song and were just little unrehearsed bits to fill in some space in the song. |
My band is currently recording an E.P
Heres a live vid if youre keen to check it out. We playing Rics this Sunday night 9.30 btw. |
"You must be new here."
Yes, I am new here. Nothing much gets past you, would it be ok with you if I post occasionally? |
some ppl lurk and rarely post
some ppl have multiple screen names semantic quibbles are common in QGL Town. |
Heres some original electronica i did with a mate as a tribute to 90's era David Bowie...

Somehow im really praying that 120NIN posts a song about door - and I get to watch this thread change for the better.
|
I can't get your itunes link to work Noah :( Yeah it's cutting out the colon after https. Try and copy paste it into the address bar. |
That was really good. Maybe you could try a version with a bit of vocal in there as well just to see where it went but yeah, well done loving it

Geto Boys vs The Temptations. Latin Adidas I think we're all pretty clear on what is original and what isn't, but thanks to the pedants for setting us all straight. Just a bit of fun, not trying to make money off this s*** but whatever. Funny how the people oh so helpfully pointing out others "shortcomings" have posted jack squat of their own work. |
Posting one last mashup; I actually think this works really well. The acapella matches the tone of the beat. From memory I did a fair bit of chopping and manipulating to get it right but the result turned out pretty good if I do say so myself.

f*** your gay club music f**gets

Someone was telling me today that Soundcloud was getting all narky about mash ups and copyrighted material and deleting a lot of tracks and blocking users. Anyone heard anything about this?
