Mate just told me about this; it's being demonstrated out at a UQ day thing today - an app developed by students as part of a project which aims to make Qld Transport stuff more usable: Transmob.
TransMob by TranspondersStill in development but I can't imagine anything would be more painful than the current Translink website so might be of interest to some (i.e., someone please beta test it and let me know how it goes). https://lh5.ggpht.com/26nYUROjR-amo1aJFz92O5oeKSWHM_xmG351U3IE7PJWTe1W2Jn42AoHJBiI26rAp4RO=h900 |
I remember the days of going into they myer centre when they had a little corner where you could ask for bus directions and get printed time tables. Fairly certain that's more painful than the site.

I'll give it a whirl. I hope its not so in beta that it leaks battery.
edit: well damn. after playing around with it for a few mins, it's pretty impressive. its basic and does what it needs to. What's sad is that it took this long for something to come out. Good on the students for making this. Trog, are you taking feedback for your friend? I wrote a little something for usability on the play store, but i doubt it'll get read. Feedback through the playstore is pretty cumbersome. |
Post on their Facebook page and they'll probably respond.

Why have pre android 3+? Custom firmware yo

There's been an Android app for Translink written by an independent for quite a long time which works fine for me.

Ugly as s*** but it works :p A UI spruce up and fixing gocard integration would be sweet. I think it scrapes the data from the website rather than using the Translink API info. Why have pre android 3+? Custom firmware yoBecause that last custom ROM I stuck on ran like crap. I think my Desire HD doesn't really have the legs on it anymore :) |
Twisted, yes that's the one I use, it's simple as but works.

I only have occasional need to catch public transport these days, but it is always a ball ache trying to remember which station I need when I am in the city. Have had a play with this and already I can see how it will be handy, so happy to keep it on the phone.

Looks nice Trog, now we just need buses and trains to have real-time GPS tracking would you need GPS tracking??, I thought there would be an already better method in play (QR have to have a pretty good idea anyway to controller the signalling it would just be a matter of making a system that relays that info into a readable format) also the only downside to that is whenever there is an issue with a train, they can be magic and change what sort of service they are |

Hello guys, sorry for new-member-barging-in, but I just found this thread from a quick search on Google and I just have to post here haha. I am Andrea from team Transponders, the developer of TransMob :)
Thank you very much for your enthusiasm on TransMob ^__^ So glad to see people using the app that we've been working on this whole semester :) Regarding support for lower Android version, we have made some adjustments on the app so that it's usable for Android API 8 (Android 2.2) and above. We are currently testing the app on Android 2.3.3 and it works well, we just need to do a bit more testings then we can release it in the Google Play Store. For real time tracking, Translink provides real time data only for certain areas: Clarks Logan City bus services, CitiGlider, and Cairns city bus services. Currently we are still working on retrieving and processing the real time data, we'll definitely release an update after we got it working well. For any feedback / question / comments / suggestions, please feel free to post at our facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/Transponders or email us at contact.transponders@gmail.com I'll definitely keep an eye on this thread as well ^^ Thanks~! |

I used it on my Nexus 7 tethered to my Desire HD. Worked quite well. I was impressed. |

Hi everyone, Transponders released a new update for TransMob today ^__^
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=transponders.transmob In this update, we implemented what you've been asking for: TransMob now supports Android 2.2 (Froyo) and up! In older Android versions, if the app appears as a blank white screen, then you need to update Google Play Services from Playstore. The app needs Google Play Services version 3.2.25 or above. If you still encounter problems in loading the app, please feel free to contact us, or just post your problems here ^^ I can give you easy tips on how to update Google Play Services, which can be tricky in some devices haha |
