As expected, new Candadian indie studio Hinterland has launched the crowdfunding campaign for The Long Dark, an open-world, first person survival game from a team that includes veterans of studios including Relic, Volition, Riot and BioWare.
One of the first Kickstarter projects to use local Canadian currency, The Long Dark has a base target of CAD$200,000 for development of the game on PC, Mac and Linux.
The Long Dark is a thoughtful, first-person survival simulation that emphasizes quiet exploration in a stark, yet hauntingly beautiful, post-disaster setting. The breathtakingly picturesque Pacific Northwest frames the backdrop for the drama of The Long Dark.
The Kickstarter pitch doesn't offer any prototype gameplay or early visuals, which has been fatal for other similar projects in the past, but as of the time of posting, it has already raised over $20K from 740 backers with 29 days to go.
Stretch goals right up to CAD$600,000 promise to introduce features such as Oculus Rift support, EFIGS localisation and an enhanced voice-acting cast.
