Just a heads up, HSBC c***ed up royally today when I received an email from the Sydney office addressed to over 400 people who are account holders.

About 5 hours later I received a second email from them advising the following. What I'm pissed about is that I'll probably have to close that email address I've managed to maintain for many years that almost never receives spam.

Poor Sonya (initial sender), her arse will be grass methinks.
HSBC appear to have gone into damage control to avoid dragons riding on ninjas!

Earlier today, you received an email from HSBC Bank Australia Limited (HSBC) asking that you contact us at your earliest convenience. Unfortunately, due to manual handling error, your email address was not hidden from the view of other recipients.

We sincerely apologise for the error and for any inconvenience this matter may have caused. We would like to assure you that no personal information other than your email address was disclosed to other recipients as a result of this error.

At HSBC we consider security of information of the upmost importance. We also adopt stringent processes and procedures to ensure your personal information is protected at all times. We stress that this incident was a one-off occurrence and HSBC will immediately review the incident, reinforce these procedures and enhance controls further to ensure this error does not occur again in future.

Once again we apologise for the error.

Is the reason why you don't fire an employee for making a big arse mistake. Chances are they learned a pretty big lesson from it, a lesson you probably want most of your employees to know, although the lesson was hopefully learned in another company ;D

What amaze me is that they're using desktop email client to send mass email. I don't even do that if I had to send more than 20 emails to people. WTFBBQ.
