Has anyone played Animal Crossing New Leaf? I have heard some fantastic reviews and some friends are raving about how good it is, I remember being addicted to Animal Crossing on the Gamecube many years ago and I can't remember why.

So any feedback or comments would be good because I'm wondering whether I should pick this up or not.

I've heard so much about Animal Crossing, but every time I try to figure out what it is through google, it looks like some simple webgame or something?

It's an RPG/Simulator where you take control of a town as their mayor, running the place and ensuring it gains enough money and tourists. The reason it's so popular is because it never ends. People have sunk hundreds of hours into these games and still continue to do so.

Stealing from Wiki:
Gameplay is open-ended: players have no defined objectives, but are instead encouraged to spend their time in the village performing any number of activities, which include collecting items, planting plants or other items, and socializing with the village's residents. All Animal Crossing games are played in real time, utilizing the system's internal clock and calendar. Thus, passage of time in the game world reflects that in reality, as well as the current season and time of day. Some in-game events, such as holidays or the growth of a tree, occur at certain times or require some duration of time to have passed.

It's basically a game about nothing. Not the type of game for everyone, but its still pretty cool :)

The game has no plot, narrative, goals or any achievements. You pretty much potter around, doing activities like fishing or bug hunting to planting things or talking/helping the other inhabitants. It's also not the kind of game of can sink a lot of hours into in a single sitting since you tend to run out of things to do, but it will keep you coming back for more.

Interesting, thanks. Is it tamagotchi level involvement? Or more like sims level?

Theres no real upkeep so I would say sims light. The game lets you pretty much do what you want.

Picked it up last night, so far very similar to what I remember of the Gamecube version although my game has only been active for 10 hours and I am still living in a tent I can't progress any further until my house is built, I make my first down payment and I have 100% citizen rating.

Also hasn't help that since I started playing after 9pm last night and I was playing 6:30am this morning the shops have obviously been shut lol

I'll plug my 3DS ID in here later so you Animal Crossing fanatics can add me.
