At least 1700 public sector IT jobs will go in the next two years, the Queensland government's $5.2 million IT audit has identified. There are already bugger all IT jobs in QLD. So if you're thinking of getting into IT, please don't. |
There are already bugger all IT jobs in QLD. So if you're thinking of getting into IT, please don't. when i worked at Digital/Compaq/HP in Sydney CBD, without doubt the most overstaffed and incompetent IT team I saw was the NSW governments. I actually saw people there who got fired from IT teams at other companies for stuffing up. It was like a collection of IT people that other companies had rejected. Now, if QLD is/was anything like how NSW was (this was going on 10years ago now) then it is probably time for a broom to be pushed through. |
Well you don't solve staff/hiring problems by firing everybody and then not hiring anybody ever again.
|
Well you don't solve staff/hiring problems by firing everybody and then not hiring anybody ever again. you don't fire people who are redundant to your needs just to hire replacements. |
Good news. Balancing the purse strings.
|
There's a lot of good, competent people in CITEC, I've spent a fair chunk of this week there.

There's a lot of good, competent people in CITEC, I've spent a fair chunk of this week there. And those will be the ones that will pick up work in the private sector quicker than others. |
It's always good news when someone gets a job, and it's always sad news when someone loses a job. Breaking up is hard to do.
The upside is now all these people can retrain, get real jobs and drive the cost of labour down in other skilled areas. |
with the additional benefit of awesome job security. maybe 5 - 10 years ago in govt. not any more |
i worked for QR for a while and the amount of ppl that rip them off is ridiculous.
such as, work for 2days on a saturday and claim a 13hr double time day. Working for 3hrs a day then goin home/sleeping under a tree till knock off. People would even order pallets of water/ cleaning products and take them home. It was mind boggling. So its no surprise that ppl in the IT section are doing the same |
work for 2 hrs on a saturday not 2 days **
|
If 1700 getting the arse, who will be left to implement the bazillion dollar upgrade of all the qld government systems?

Shared services is already s*** and lacks staff when any big event happens, so let's get rid of more. This and other great "cost savings" ideas* from the lnp
* any cost savings will be eroded by outsourcing costs AND and decline in service so should not be viewed as beneficial regardless of what mp's tell you |

Anyone seen user account creation at somewhere like QR Having worked there and created accounts, f*** all scripts were used... Could of used them though, i remember creating 100+ accounts a night at some points... urgh memories. |
There are already bugger all IT jobs in QLD. So if you're thinking of getting into IT, please don't. if you haven't been doing this with your Dad/big bro/mates since you were a kid.. please don't. you're cheap, you're plentiful, you make mistakes, you don't understand the client, and you're giving management every reason under the sun to offshore this work and/or wait until you leave so they can hire another n00b. hmm... looking back 10yrs... I should have gone OS to SE Asia and started a consultancy there instead of staying here in OZ and having a family that tied me down. It's kinda funny to think about the concept right now actually... still... how many overseas call centers has Bigpond/Testra been thru now? 3? 5? 9? (It's less than 10 - more than 5 btw ) How many call centers out there in SE Asia will none of us **ever use** ourselves for work because Telstra gave them the flick due to the sheer number of customers they alienated? I guess there's more questions to ask here.... Sleep on that.... today sucked... tomorrow will be better for it |
I work in Qld Govt IT and have been in the Datacentres in the CBD and Springfield. The politicians get a big LOL from any of us if they really think they are dismantling CITEC in 2 years. Most likely they will lease the data centre, but actual migration of systems into IAAS providers will not happen quickly.
Sure, there is a call from the top for us to absolutely start looking into our IAAS options, but if the costs aren't stacking up, that wont be the way things go. It's more than just the hardware and maintenance on it. Re: Hirings/Firings.. June 30 last year they got rid of most our contractors. The past 6 months, almost the same amount were hired back, and there's a big push to get all this work done again by June 30, since it's likely they won't get renewed again. Who knows what the hell is going on with that. It's frustrating as the contractors actually take work away from competent people leaving them with nothing to do, while the contractor dumps some s***** design and implementation with no handover to operational teams when their contract ends. |
Technology One, one of the largest financial contributors to the LNP and also preferred source for the provision of services under consideration to be outsourced. Coincidence?
|
Sure, there is a call from the top for us to absolutely start looking into our IAAS options, but if the costs aren't stacking up, that wont be the way things go. see, you are misguided by the fact that the government doesn't care if the services are provided. we worked this one out in health last year - early this year when they shredded everything and everyone, there was no emphasis on service, only costs. Coincidence? wrong word. cronyism. |
Look up the news articles surrounding Ros Bates before she resigned. It's a widely known secret.
|
Doesn't Clive Palmers party want to stop that sort of rawting by reducing by effectively capping the amount for lobbying?
|
got a citation for that? Tell me you haven't been in bed with Telstra for 10 years roughly? |
got a citation for that?Absolutely. |
personally, im not a linux fan. but i wish gov would look at using it and open office. makes sense there.
|
Trog it doesn't need a citation it's pretty well known they donated money, and I believe broke some limit. Santo Santoro is linked to it somehow also. I believe Santo was also involved in a certain funding for a certain aged care facility?
Also all political party donations can be found at http://periodicdisclosures.aec.gov.au/ ... when it's working. |
