Hey Guys,

You might have already seen this but i thought it was kind of fun. It's just a game where you guess where a google streetview is in the world.

http://www.geoguessr.com/

Anyway I thought i was terrible at geography but turns out from enough TopGear I'm good at placing many roadsigns. Also not too bad at looking at hints from language and shop names.

Anyway my first score was http://bit.ly/ZTP0C8 and i'm sure you're all more clever, so give it a go!

So was mine, but it was a dirt road that off in the distance i could see a tiny cottage house which looked really quaint and english, so i guessed and turns out places in the UK isn't exactly far away from each other. There's no doubt that I got such a good score because on one of them i saw a town just south of adelaide that i could recognize. That alone gave me 6000+ points.

10100 points. I got the correct country/continent every time.

Linky

I'd like to claim it is because I am well travelled and knowledgeable, but really there was just some arsey guesses involved :P

2 Canada ones and an Australian one were easy, found town name in signs.

South Africa I had to look at road signs and pick places which were the appropriate driving distance on the highway number.

The Brazil one I did the same as South Africa but there are a lot less signs in that town.

Are you allowed to use Google Maps if you find a town name? I resisted the urge, but maybe I don't have to?

I got some good points for Russia, saw the writing and went, well I know the country at least and spammed a location for 2000 points.

I failed dismally with picking a place in Northern America when it was in fact somewhere in europe. O well. All I had was a big long road and lots of tree's, maybe if I sunk a few points in Botany I'd have scored better .

Been playing this a bit the last couple days, really interesting game. Its best if you only use the street view to try and determine where you are IMO, you get pretty resourcefull with information. For example, I now know the style of telephone line pole used in most regional polish towns :P

Striker and I both got that too im guessing. I don't know why it's so popular. I also ended up in leggo world or something and guessed malaysia, but was hilariously wrong as it was the one in denmark xD

I had "The Big Winch" near Cooper Pedy in S.A. The picture looked dry, hot and sunbaked so guessed Northern Territory.

The Asian islands were here on googlemaps 27.149589, 141.756134. Turns out the islands are near Iwo Jima.

9545 second time, tried to really study the area and move around and look at signs, I got in the right ballpark each time, but you must have to be pretty spot on to get high scores in this game

That's a decent f*****g score, that must be some seriously godlike internet warrioring down to the meter to get your points up to that. Averaging over 6200 each guess to reach that when maybe i only cracked 6k a few times in every run so far!

Got 17k on my first and probably last attempt. Got most pretty close except for one I guessed Poland instead of Russia and another Bali instead of Thailand.

I spent heaps of time tracking down my first guess which was a light house in Spain, new the name of the light house and everything yet still managed to pick the wrong area. After that I pretty much just went off the first clue available which was usually the language or a nearby name.

Yeh I was wondering how people were getting such high scores; I decided right from the outset that I was only going to rotate the camera and not move around (otherwise you can just move over to a sign or something that gives you massive clues)

Cool game, I thought my geography skills were quite good but I like totally sucked??? The first round I got 2k? I was totally off, I actually used Google Translate for some signs but it wasn't worth it so I just guess almost all of them. One of them was in Spanish and I went on Europe but it was Mexico... I got 5901 on the second try... Man lol!!!
