Various BSODs on Freshly Installed Windows 7
I know there is a few tech wizards around these parts so I was wondering if anyone could shed some light on these recent BSOD errors.
Currently I've installed a fresh new Windows 7 to a friend's computer (specs below) and it is now constantly crashing with BSOD messages. It varies on what exactly I'm doing, and I initially thought it could be due to the stock cooling causing overheat issues however this was not the case (at least I think so). Currently installed on the computer is MSE, Firefox, a number of games, Steam, Alt.Binz, Core Temp and a few other smaller applications. The most common error message I receive is the non_page_fault however I also get a system_exception error as well. See below for specs and BSOD reports. It seems that the computer crashes when Firefox or iTunes is loaded up and running for more than five minutes. Tried using different RAM, putting the RAM in different slot etc? From my limited understanding BSODs are usually a RAM problem.

From my limited understanding BSODs are usually a RAM problem.Already tried multiple switching and even brought over my RAM and still kept bringing up errors. I have a very large inkling something driver related is causing it, though I'm not exactly sure what. I initially had the computer at mine where I put Windows 7 on (after Windows 8 was previously on when built and caused severe BSOD errors) and it was working perfectly, however transported it to friends place and just won't work. |

Does it have a dedicated sound? If so make sure the onboard is turned off.
I'm giving out the same spiel to everyone because i got screwed with random bsods for that same reason! |

Yea I agree with fpot, I can guarantee its a dead memory stick, as it happened to me and my computer was very very sick because of it. My PC mate found the issue for me, he downloaded "Memtest" or something to find out, & yea one stick was failing all its tests.

Well he said he has tested it with different RAM. Could it be the actual slot itself or something?

I've got a GA-Z77 board as well (D3H) and it had some unstability when I first got it (worked for a few hours then freeze/reset), this might be the same problem because I recall it affected a few different Gigabyte board models.
A flash to the latest BIOS didn't work, so the solution/workaround with mine was just to disable all of the energy saving features on the board. |

Seems to be a re-occurrence of these error codes according to the dumps:
IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL ntoskrnl.exe SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION nvlddmkm.sys PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA fltmgr.sys DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL usbehci.sys The ntoskrnl.exe seems to be the most proliferate error, with seven reported crashes. |

Different PSU? Bummer that you're now responsible for fixing your friends PC after a simple reinstall. |

Haha I'm use to it and it's always interesting figuring things out. The weird thing is that after leaving it off for say an hour, boots up fine and can play any game for however long, but as soon as you open up a browser or iTunes it just craps itself. OpenOffice also started having a hissy fit which was weird, stating it was already open on startup.

As mentioned, test the memory with memtest for at least one full pass (though given there are major problems, I'd recommend leaving it running overnight). This is regardless of whether you've tried other sticks, as the problem could be with the memory interface (not the sticks).
For best results: 0. Flash to latest BIOS. 1. Have only 1 stick of ram in, not both. 2. Remove the graphics card and use the graphics onboard the CPU. 3. Unplug everything from the USB 3.0 ports (several USB 3 controllers cause BSOD) and only have the bare minimum (kb + mouse) plugged into the USB 2 ports, and without hubs! 4. Unplug all other HDDs and dvd drives. Just have the boot drive in. (basically with the above you just want the bare minimum hardware plugged in that is necessary to boot and replicate the crash) THEN try memtest + trying to get it to crash in Windows again. If it still crashes, it's not any of those peripherals you just removed. If it doesn't crash, start adding and testing each device one by one ... |

Thanks for the comments and help guys, much appreciated! Figured it out in the end, the Nvidia drivers were somehow corrupted and causing the BSODs which is bizarre considering she could run Skyrim for a good 30 minutes with no troubles. Computers I guess.

... And you review games for PC My computer usually works well enough to not cause me any headaches when doing work-related things (though a nice NBN connection would be handy). I have a feeling the drivers were corrupted through an application installation or maybe a faulty Windows update. |

must be contageous because not long after reading this thread I got a BSOD, and a couple of games started crashing. I wonder if he's right about the drivers being broken by a windows update or something.

SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION nvlddmkm.sys if only someone could have drawn a line between the two.. hang on.. the Intel 6-series/C200 chipset does just that! ... And you review games for PC f*** off Obes.. you can't even script your own AD policies by hand. Make some good of yourself.. realise that the Labour camp sucks at all things IT and go help the Libs... they pay better... ...and your failures will be swept under the carpet maybe one day you'll get to a point where you don't need either |
