they should lease those places out to Hollywood for movies.

is that the chick from lamb chops?
|
Wasn't this reported on a few years ago and the places have since been populated? Or was that a different ghost town?
|
I was just wondering that, googling this seems to indicate that this was only broadcast in the last 24 hours.
The previous city shown just seemed to take a few months to get populated, but seemed to be thriving sometime later (presuming, cynically, that it wasn't a propaganda piece). Not sure what the implications would be, I'm presuming pretty bad for Australia, though at least on a pragmatic front, there's a s***load of houses for people in China now for when they come back down in price towards what they actually put into them in the first place... |
Wasn't this reported on a few years ago and the places have since been populated? Or was that a different ghost town? Al Jazeera went to Ordos in 2009, and then revisited it two years later. The conclusion: still quiet, but they're still building. Incidentally, the Shangai Stock Exchange property index just went down 9% for the day, the sharpest drop since July 2008, as the government outlined their action plan to curb real estate investment (higher deposit ratios etc.) |
Isnt china fully loaded with Cash though so its not really a bubble?
|
China would have gotten away with it as well if it wasn't for those pesky kids.
|
Whereas if Aussies could get their hands on $50k apartments we'd all be like "omg gimme!" Wonder how they feel about foreign ownership? Might grab me one of these and be set for life! |
haha, quantity not quality, gotta love it.

The part that I took as really odd from that story. Is that the middle class Chinese are still buying them up, surely they know by now they are empty?
They must be expecting the prices to rise based almost completely on the greater fool theory, that is someone else will be foolish enough to buy it at a higher price later on (they in turn think someone else will). As surely they cant see untenanted units as an income stream. Also, how awesome would those ghost cities be for Zombie movies and post apocalyptic movies. Chinese government should buy out 1 of the empty cities and lease it to Hollywood.. |
Or they could just film in Detroit.
