Yo,
I had a bit of a search. Nothing jumped out at me. I'm looking for a free program to record Skype video. It needs to be external to Skype (The other person can't know its being recorded) as we have a bit of a dodgy ex situation going on. No more details on that one except its not me involved directly, just helping out. Thanks. |
Just use your smartphone off screen?
|
Just use your smartphone off screen? I don't understand sorry. Skype is being used on a laptop. |
Have someone stand off screen, out of camera view to other party, and record it all on a phone.
Could even be done by the person on the call by holding it in the right location off screen. |
Have someone stand off screen, out of camera view to other party, and record it all on a phone. Given the circumstances, can't do it that way. Thanks though. |
Evaer isn't free, but it's trial version gives you five minutes per recording, just start and stop it all the time or something.
|
There was a program that used to take a variety of smart screenshots (could smart select just the active window for example) plus record vidoes. Was blue and white in colour IIRC. Cant remember the name, sorry.
|
$20 isn't too bad. May look at that one.
Starting and stopping also isn't an option. Really like a free one though. |
Snag it might work http://www.techsmith.com/snagit.html
|
What about fraps? Also this seems really dodgy. Is it an ex girlfriend or an ex workmate? I'm guessing exgf.
What happend, pray tell! |
Be aware that this is possibly (and almost certainly) illegal - recording people without their consent (e.g., over the phone) is definitely illegal. See privacy.gov.au and do some research. If it is for legal purposes TALK TO A LAWYER FIRST.
|
fraps does not work with skype ive tried.. it makes hundreds of files in seconds that hardly work as a playable video
|
I looked at Fraps. $40 for the licensed version. Any idea what the free version does.
Greazy: Its neither. Not Cool. Vash's thread is way more entertaining. I suggest you re-read that one for the Jerry Springer story. |

If it is for legal purposes TALK TO A LAWYER FIRST. Noted. It isn't for legal purposes. I wont go into why. One parent has been in regular contact with a lawyer so everything so far is all travelling by the book. Ill keep it on track without going into it... Lets just say its ACTUALLY needed to record a lovely conversation of Granny calling the Grandkids from her Canadian Cruise Trip and I didn't want to sound too lovey dovey. |

I meant 'not cool' as in what was going on was not cool. Not your post.
Relax dude. |
Ill keep it on track without going into it...Cool. As long as all parties are aware they are being recorded it is fine. |
i think dxtory can record skype. there's a free trial version.
|
MSI afterburner is free and should do the job.
/thread |
Plenty of good suggestions.
Many thanks. |
I'd suggest either http://obsproject.com/ or http://www.xsplit.com/
both are meant for streaming, but actually do really good local recording, pickup skype stuff no problems and you can even set it up with more items such as a timer, watermark, and which program or part of the screen you want recorded. Simple and effective. Xsplit costs for the full version, but OBS is the open source alternative. |
I suggest posting pix of exgf (preferably nude) so we can determine the most appropriate software for the job.

Uh oh, sounds like underage shenanigans afoot.
anyway, I love this program because A) it's totally free and B) has a semi decent codec for recording, but also lets you set any encoding codec you want. (also does record audio from "stereo mix" or "what you hear" whatever your sound card calls it) http://camstudio.org/ |
camtasia? does this work in Win7 64bit now (or Win 8?) ? (edit - seems their webby lists Win and 8 as viable platforms these days... no mention of 32/64 bit support though Wasn't Camtasia free?) http://www.evaer.com/ seems to be the officially supported Skype app ($20) for the job. |

If it is for legal purposes TALK TO A LAWYER FIRST. Hmm not sure that link is at all relevant. It's talking about a company or 3rd party recording it. In saying that. I think video is an issue. I know at work if we have cameras in a location there has to be signs blah blah blah. Recording the audio I believe as long as 1 of the 2 parties in the conversation is aware and is recording it, it is occurring is fine. At least such is the legal advice we were given. Recording a screen of someone else videoing themselves ? .. I would think that is most definitely be not black or white. insert a MJ song here |
mirillis action is pretty good for live streams

A cop I know told me recently that its apparently OK to record someone you are personally talking to without their knowledge, but what's illegal is recording a conversation without the permission of the parties.
It came up in a discussion about whether you could record a conversation with a cop who pulled you over without telling them about it. |
A cop I know told me recently that its apparently OK to record someone you are personally talking to without their knowledge, but what's illegal is recording a conversation without the permission of the parties. ok I Just woke up and that f***ed with my head. What? |
Try this one, it's free and easy to use app http://dvdvideosoft.com/products/dvd/Free-Video-Call-Recorder-for-Skype.htm
Besides, it has several recording modes. |
A cop I know told me recently that its apparently OK to record someone you are personally talking to without their knowledge, but what's illegal is recording a conversation without the permission of the parties. He said, you can record without permission if you are in the conversation. but you can't record other people's conversations without their permission. |
