Has anyone else here played either 999 (DS) and/or Zero Escape: Virtues Last Reward (3DS/Vita)?
I finished 999 about a month ago, and I'm playing through Virtues Last Reward at the moment and really really enjoying both. If you have a means to play it I would strongly recommend it. I got 999 from Ebay for really cheap, and VLR from ozgameshop. Both are really virtual novels with a puzzle component thrown in. The puzzles are really intricate and some a f*****g hard!! 999 Zero Escape : Virtues Last Reward Would like to know if anyone else has played either of them. I'm a little over 10 hours into VLR, so probably half way'ish I suspect. |
I've heard that they're amazing.
I started playing 999, but I found the puzzles a little clumsy and couldnt sit through the endless slow scrolling unskippable text. I've heard the devs fixed a lot of the text and general playability issues in VLR, but without playing the first one I dont think I would understand the story. I also have a Vita that is doing f*****g nothing, it'd be great to find something that I actually wanted to play. |
The whole idea of the game is that you can't beat it on the first play through. It's just not possible. This was handled really clumsily I thought in 999 and that frustrated me to no end so I actually did finish it properly - I used a walkthrough.
VLR though is totally different. You get a flow chat of all the possible story branches in the game, and you can skip back to a branch and play from there. You can easily skip over areas/conversations you've listened too. The whole note taking and password stuff is recorded better too. If you couldn't sit through 999, then I would still give VLR a go - so far there hasn't been anything that's made me go - crikey I'm glad I played 999 so understand this! It's also got voiced dialogue, while it's in Japanese, and I find myself skipping a bit, it does break through the monotony of the walls of text. |
