Chalk another success up to the Kickstarter initiative as another worthy game developer project has reached it's funding goals incredibly quickly. Ok, well maybe it's too early to start singing praises about all of these games that are still far away from being completed, but after Tim Schafer's adventure game and InXile's Wasteland 2, its incredibly cool to see that a indie-game project with smaller ambitions (only a $100,000 target) and less celebrity-developer endorsement can also successfully raise capital for self-publishing in the same way.
The Banner Saga is a role-playing game merged with turn-based strategy, wrapped into an adventure mini-series about vikings.
Travel through stunning landscapes straight out of an animated film. Battle painstakingly hand-animated foes in strategic, turn-based combat harkening back to the classic "Tactics" days of gaming. Make decisions with consequences in conversations with people you'll truly care about.
The biggest appeal for this one is the gorgeous hand-drawn artwork, which you can already begin to appreciate in the debut trailer below.
Further, the developers have every intention of releasing the final product completely-free of DRM -- they aim to still publish on Steam, but will also be offering downloads separate for those that prefer a freely copyable install -- as well as an expressed desire to also get a Linux version happening. If that sounds like a worthy cause to you head over to kickstarter to contribute to the process.
