In a recent
interview with CVG, Netherrealm Studios has detailed a couple of the DLC characters for Mortal Kombat. Kenshi and Scarlet are reportedly the first two additional characters to be made available for download some time after the game's launch when it is released everywhere except Australia next month.
Players of 2003's Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance will remember Kenshi as the blind kendo swordfighter, whereas Scarlet is a (kind of) all new introduction to the series.
"Anyone who knows the history of Mortal Kombat will tell you that back in the days of the arcade - when they did just palette swap characters to come up with multiple fighters in the game - there was a glitch in one of the old arcade machines that caused the Jade/Katana/Milena female ninja to glitch and turn red.
"People always thought it was a hidden unlockable character and it wasn't, it was purely a programming glitch. They've always speculated and in fact it was the fans who named her Scarlet to begin with. She's no longer a glitch - she's an actual character, and she'll be coming pretty soon post-launch."
Also mentioned in the article is another rumoured DLC character, Mortal Kombat 2 sub-bos Kintaro.
Due to Australia's lack of an 18+ category for video games, Mortal Kombat remains in refused classification limbo here and unless anything happens to change that, will not be available for purchase or importing into the country.
Additionally, another new gameplay trailer has been released. Titled "Ninja Takedown" the new clip features a tag team of the cyborg characters vs the more
human ninjas. Watch it embedded below or

Mortal Kombat is due on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 in North America on April 19th 2011 and everywhere else except Australia on April 21st.

I'd like to see some new levels to fight on after a while.
I'd really like to see MK9 on the PSN US store. That'd make importing quite easy!

So what do you propose the artists and programmers who have nothing to do once the game was finished a couple of months ago, do in the meantime? They can work on DLC, or move onto the next project. Besides, they've said since like the very start that they would be expanding the roster over time via DLC, so its hardly a shock. Its not like they're charging people to unlock stuff thats already on the disc, like other games have done in the past.
She doesn't need to be DLC, shes already in the game! Check out the roster I posted in this thread, shes the ugly looking bull dyke on the bottom row, next to quan chi.
