That would be Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit.

Shift is the simulation series, and EA seem to be trying to both continue to leverage the Need for Speed brand for Shift but distance itself from it at the same time, it's weird.

I only put Need for Speed in the headline for the benefit or people that might not be aware that it's technically a Need for Speed game. Here's the box art http://www.ausgamers.com/gameres/5233/images/source/shft2ulepcpftfront.jpg

Compare that to the art from the original shift: http://www.ausgamers.com/gameres/4722/images/source/nfsshiftpcpftfront.jpg

Heh, thirteenst! Cheers.

Appears to have no LAN play, which means I'll be skipping this as I did Hot Pursuit.

If you think NFS Shift is anything like NFS Hot Pursuit you are very mis-informed.
Shift series is nothing like the rest of NFS series.

nah i remember playing shift and it was horrible to handle, physics where s*** house and the only thing they promoted in the promo videos was the inside view of the cars and how pretty it was.

NFS isnt a racing simulator franchise its a buy a car spend money on doin it up and take it 200km into a corner and somehow make it around. If ppl want realistic driving games they will buy gt5 or forza, nfs is completely missing their customer base with these games imo

Who said they were both alike? I see no mention of that ITT.

Shift was cool, It nailed the whole racing feel so much better than GT5 imo.
Physics are another story all together but the atmosphere of it was great.

Edit* - Lulz, How do you reckon it would stand up against those two games scoobs? I think the devs are smart in balancing the game on the edge between the arcade and sim market.

I don't want a 100% simulation nor do I want another Underground1/2/Carbon/ProStreet/Hot Pursuit.
I own Shift(ps3) and I find your comments sc00b quite boggling.
The sounds, environment and even the way the car handles when you bank or hit another car or wall in Shift is like no other racing game I've played.

I don't want a car game where i can just hold down accel and bounce off the walls with my 800horse pwoered $1million $$ car rep

After NFS3 Hot Pursuit i just couldn't keep up with all those dime a dozen titles..

Need for Speed: High Stakes/Need for Speed: Road Challenge (1999)
Need for Speed: Porsche Unleashed/Need for Speed: Porsche 2000 (2000)
Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit 2 (2002)
Need for Speed: Underground (2003)
Need for Speed: Underground 2 (2004)
Need for Speed: Most Wanted (2005)
Need for Speed: Carbon (2006)
Need for Speed: ProStreet (2007)
Need for Speed: Undercover (2008)
Need for Speed: Shift (2009)
Need for Speed: Nitro (2009)
Need for Speed: World (2010)
Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit (2010)
Shift 2: Unleashed (2011)

I think the only ones I gave a decent go was Underground and Most Wanted which I both enjoyed. The rest (excluding shift which i haven't touched) looked meh and totally skipped them.

2010 Hot Pursuit is worth a look if you like your arcade racing games. Unlike the rest of the NSF stable, it was developed at Criterion, so it's a pretty good meld of the Need for Speed and Criterion's Burnout games.

Shift was s***. Regretted the purchase very very quickly. My weel felt unlinked to the car and they rewarded you after every race with damages that other s***head drivers hit you with.

I didn't want to race because i didn't want the f***ed up s*** house AI to ram my car while I had no money. But that was the point of the game. So i didn't want to play the game. All that was left was to uninstall the c***.

I loved underground 1 and 2. Best games ever (in the NFS series IMO). I'd just drive around for the sake of it, was perfectly arcadey enough to pick up by friends and family on the wheel intuitively but complicated enough to keep you fighting the wheel in tough fought races. I'd play them again.

Edit: not best game ever by a long way, but i enjoyed it
I also played NFS Prostreet and completed it on the xbox with a controller. It was actually quite fun but no underground. They didn't give many achieve points iirc. All the points were for racing online, and i didn't think it was really a competitive game..

yer i played it on ps3 at a mates house and thought it was total dog balls, was too arcady to be a sim but not arcady enough to have fun on (like underground 1&2)

er.. oh god. You can drive agreesive or passive. They have a point system for both. And Its practically impossible to run out of money, they give you hundreds of races in different tiers. Sounds like you didnt play it for long.

Developers really done a great job with their research to get the atmosphere spot-on with the lighting for the night racing.. a big kudos.

Compared to GT5 or any other before it this has the most natural look and feel.

Line-up of cars is spectacular even though it can't compete with that of GT/Forza.

was bored so i aquired this last night, god i hope this game drives better either with a wheel or on console, cause its totally gumby on pc with keyboard.

3rd person view sucks car is so sensitive and the drifting is really wierd. Really feels like you need a wheel.

graphics are pretty and inside car view is nice as usual, the helmet view is so hard to drive with cause he moves his head in the car and u have to compensate how much u turn. on the other hand lookin out the side window while driftin is pretty cool.

from what i played its no gt5 or forza tho, maybe some tweaking and a wheel would make it better :/

yeah driving with keyboard is retarded. if you lose traction you just end up with a tank slapper because you cant change direction quick enough.

You should try Carbon too, I only really liked Underground and Most Wanted but then I tried Carbon and it has similarities.

Shift took me AGES to get used to the driving physics, by the time I was used to it I was over it.

Forza > *

Even with a wheel Shift isn't that great.
Turn in is kinda slow. Then at high speeds it's overly sensitive.

Drifting feels really unnatural, kinda like you're fighting for control of the car. =\

Graphics and sound are top notch though!
Brilliant s***.

It'll be interesting how this one will go, since they are featuring Mad Mike's RX8. They better get that quad rotor noise right!

i would have sex with a very ugly girl for a 24b quad rotor to drop into an FD RZ
