Another update from our rogue
reporting last week sees an official statement from BioWare and EA regarding what appears to be the last DLC (downloadable content) for
Mass Effect 2, Arrival, which will actually bridge the game between Mass Effect 2 and Mass Effect 3, due to land this November.
In Mass Effect: Arrival, Commander Shepard is sent to the edge of the galaxy to rescue an undercover operative who may have evidence of an imminent Reaper invasion that has been looming since the very beginning of the series. Returning and playing a prominent role in Mass Effect: Arrival is fan favourite Admiral Hackett, who is voiced by legendary science-fiction actor Lance Henriksen (Alien, Terminator).
Awesome to see Lance Henrikson on board. Arrival is set to be made available for all three platforms on March 30, and will set you back "560 MS Points on Xbox 360, $11.45 on PlayStation Network and [will] also available for PC for 560 BioWare Points at
this link". We also have some new screens from the content pack you can check out below.

Mention of old Henrikson has got me thinking I'm probably ripe for an Aliens reviewing :D

I think one of the reasons that PC gaming will be revived.

Valve seem to be the only company out there adding content for free.
I agree, anything that contributes to the main story line should be free. Why should we have to purchase something that ties the two together, WE"VE ALREADY PAID FOR IT.

Mass Effect is purely single player, when has any game company added a whole bunch of new content to a single player game without it being an expansion or DLC?

This doesn't add tot he main story of ME2. The main story of ME2 was complete ont he disc. this is an optional addon you do not actually need to finish the story.
I for one will be getting it as BioWare have shown the LOTSB and Overlord they can do pretty damn good addons. Of course they also showed with the appearance packs they can do lousy addons ...

Burnout Paradise had a heap of free DLC, and I think Red Dead Redemption had a few significant free DLC packs (like the co-op multiplayer one).
I suppose you figure you should get Mass Effect 3 free as well, because it continues the same story from Mass Effect 2?

I get annoyed when Bioware say that this DLC connects ME2 and ME3 together and this DLC plays a role in ME3. Doesn't that mean it should be included in the main story line?
"...which will actually bridge the game between Mass Effect 2 and Mass Effect 3..."
I wouldn't mind if it was one of those side quests like lair of the shadow broker or something. But this is integral to the story line and should be included in either ME2 or ME3.

And where do you draw the line at what is part of the story anyway? Cos I mean, the shadow broker has been a part of the story since ME1, and that DLC also includes one of the main characters from ME1 and ME2 as a focus, so what makes it less integral to the overall story?
I'm sure it wont be a matter of if you pick up ME3 and you haven't played this DLC you wont know whats going on, I'd be willing to bet most of it will have nothing to do with the actual story of ME3 and will just end on a tease that gives some hints about what the story will be in ME3 and makes you want to get ME3.
And if you really can't live without it, man up and buy it, its like $5 or something for a few more hours of Mass Effect. If you love the game as much as it seems, why pass up that opportunity. $5 isn't much to reward the hard work Bioware has put into it. Its not like they promised you this stuff when you bought the game, its extra stuff they're offering you above and beyond what you already have, shouldn't you be thankful for the opportunity of more ME2? An opportunity you wouldn't have otherwise had?

No squadies with you and the chance to do stealthy things and skip some combat areas. Sounds like fun. Good thing I'm off next week so will have time to play it.
