Bethesda and id Software have released a new trailer for RAGE, the long-awaited post apocalyptic first person shooter and id's first major title since Doom 3 in 2004. Today's clip is the first new footage from the game we've had since last year's E3 and although it's perhaps not as awe-striking as when id first debuted their "id tech 5" engine back in 2007, it's still arguably right there at the forefront of graphical prowess in 2011.
RAGE features intense first-person shooter action, breakneck vehicle combat, an expansive world to explore and jaw-dropping graphics powered by id’s revolutionary id Tech™ 5 technology. Set in the not-too-distant future after an asteroid impacts Earth, you emerge into a vast wasteland to discover humanity working to rebuild itself against such forces as bandit gangs, mutants, and more. From the pioneers of first-person shooter gameplay, RAGE promises an experience like no other.
Check out the trailer, titled "Untethered" -- which features and original backing-track titled Burning Jacob’s Ladder from Mark Lanegan (Screaming Trees, Queens of the Stone Age, Gutter Twins) -- embedded below or click here for the HD option.

Rage is due on PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 in Australian on September 15 2011.

Done and dusted concept now, I don't think this will be any good to be honest.

Yawn.... after so many years of trailers and images this game is far behind what is coming in 2011.

Too little too late..

Hoping a demo comes out for it later to the release date. This is a "probably buy" for me rather then a "must buy".

^ thats my general thought on most fps games lately

sound good at the begining and the more you see of it the s****** it looks. (apart from duke, that looks epic and i really hope they pull it off and it has that old duke feel to it)

All this looks like is a lame attempt to make a game from an engine John built to show people that he can make an engine that can do vast open spaces ever since he got his arse handed to him with the half life 1/2 engines when his quake engine at the time couldnt render outdoor scenes without lagging like a b****.

The quake engines lost out to the Unreal 1 engine when the game Unreal came out and had large outdoor scenes and id were stuck with corridors. And the half life 1 engine was the quake 1 engine and the source engine still has id code in it.

Previous source code releases were held up until the last commercial license of the technology shipped, but with the evolving nature of game engines today, it is a lot less clear. There are still bits of early Quake code in Half Life 2, and the remaining licensees of Q3 technology intend to continue their internal developments along similar lines, so there probably won’t be nearly as sharp a cutoff as before. I am still committed to making as much source public as I can, and I won’t wait until the titles from the latest deal have actually shipped, but it is still going to be a little while before I feel comfortable doing the release.

ID's art style is just so ugly. I think it's due to everything being normal mapped to the nines. I couldn't stand it in Doom 3 and I can't stand it here.
