I was privileged enough to get a hands-off demo of L.A. Noire running yesterday, ahead of today's trailer release (we've run a preview for said demo before, which you can find here), having missed the demo a few weeks ago, and I can say that this is truly a game to be excited for in 2011.

The Motionscan technology being used to capture - at 360 degrees - actor performances is game-changing. And with a gameplay mechanic that explores ideas of facial expressions to catch out lies, or believe the innocent, it's utterly necessary. Today's trailer gives a very good indication of the lengths gone to, to ensure L.A. Noire, first and foremost, is a compelling and engaging experience.

Basically, if you marry traditional point and click detective games with Mass Effect's dynamic dialogue and story-telling, alongside Rockstar open-world sandbox design, you get the idea of where Team Bondi are headed with this

Video definitely explains why their facial animations look so damn good.

Have to admit though, not too excited about the game itself yet, setting itself doesn't do much for me, but will hold off on a proper opinion until hearing more about what the actual gameplay is like. At the moment though, I'm more interested in what other franchises Rockstar might be working this tech into.

Yeah im abit so so about this aswell, the tech does look cool and has had a great result, but setting and story will need to be incredible to make it worth while.

still doesn't seem right, nobody yet has been able to fix that look of cold dead eyes every game character ever has.

Also, everyone seems to have solid static hair,

I think it looks awesome, I had an idea for an open world noir game like this 10 years ago, glad someone actually made it

Why don't they just use actual video footage of the head attached to the CG body?

Because then you can't change camera angles and it would look retarded anyway.

Because it's all through the game, not just in cutscenes and conversations.

Yea that was awesome, the facial animations were the first thing I noticed the first time I saw a trailer of this.
